Enjoyed his deep digging into related languages and locations, and occasional mentions of now-known climate changes in Africa that may have affected relocations/migrations of cultures/languages. I want to read more of his books about what he has learned about belief systems of the far earlier cultures of Africa and some of their Asian neighbors. One small specific that delighted me was his discussion of the varied hairstyles of ancient times on that continent. This research easily debunks some earlier beliefs of others of Earth's peoples about the African peoples, their intelligence, achievements, how they lived, etc. And the mere fact that the Dogon people still maintain many elements of an very ancient and sophisticated religion is impressive to me. Review: Wish this research and conversation could be part of much more mainstream discussion. - I was looking for research on cosmology with a universal approach, and this helped me to understand a lot more that I thought was out there. My only wish is that the book read as seamlessly as Laird's talks. He has a way of relating complexities to situations we can understand in everyday life. With a very sincere approach that he insists is based on research, not his option. I watched a talk he gave on cosmology before buying the book.

Great detective work
Great detective work. A must have reading for the scholarly. I proves that there's a lot more than the eye can see at priory and what we have been historically taught on the true meaning of certain symbols. This book you can buy and not feel that you lost your money.

It was a pleasure to see the symbolic language of different cultures examined from a cosmological perspective. The Dogon have a context filled cultural history that is reflected in their rituals and arts. They didn't evolve in a vacuum. The consciousness that fosters their understanding of how their knowledge was nurtured from distant civilizations allowed me to absorb a universal context to their art. A cultural operating system needs to be studied from many points of view and probed for new information that can lead to new creative adventures. Scranton has opened the doors through this book to a new understanding of cosmology in this cross-cultural exploit. David McCullough, Dallas, Tx., artist-scholar
