When Laclede sold off biotene formula& label to a conglomerate, I was heartbroken…BUT Now, Yahooo!
I found original biotene in drugstore. Tried it because condition of gums, stained teeth on the label looked like what I was newly experiencing, and couldn’t find any help for. The toothpaste, mouthwash, and oral moisturizing gel were the trifecta of dry mouth care. My gums returned to health, the dark spots went away, my mouth felt healthy again! Then the label changed to GSK, and the monster was loose in the building! I stocked up knowing that this would change the product dramatically within a year. Sure enough the enzymes were removed, and it became run of the mill xylitol mouthwash, paste etc, but kept remained at the premium price point. It’s classic corporate money- mongering. Buy a great product, gut it, then keep selling it under the formerly reputable label. I AM SOOO GLAD that Laclede is back in the ring! I lost a lot of teeth to dry mouth in the meantime, but I am so glad to have Salivea. It is truly a treatment toothpaste, but it tastes fine. Of note, no stand-alone toothpaste does what some reviewers seem to hope for. I also use the mouthwash and (and because I can’t find Laclede reproduction of Oralbalance gel) Oral7 brand gel moisturizer- nothing but this triple hit compares in healing my oral tissues. It does not contain the SLSulfate foaming agent of other toothpastes because it irritates oral tissues, promoting damage. It does not contain strong artificial flavorings to irritate the mouth either. It does contain, and resupply, protective enzymes naturally found in a healthy mouth, but destroyed by dry mouth. Fully understanding how treatment options help is directly related to fully understanding condition of dry mouth. If you must have the gutless, candy red sports car, go to the other brands. But if you want the Rolls-Royce engine in your treatment oral care, stick with Laclede. One caveat: always check the label, even on your most trusted brands. Xylitol will never be able to mimic oral enzymes, which are key here. Chronic Dry Mouth care is not entirely about moisture alone. Great Product! Hopefully, Laclede will protect label integrity this time around.

Effective for teeth and dry mouth care
As a a practicing dentist and someone who cannot use sulfates in toothpaste and shampoo, it's been really hard to find an easy and effective way to clean and care for my own as well as patients' teeth and gums. Even brushing with no toothpaste or sulfate-free (SLS-free) toothpastes didn't completely solve the problem of my feeling like I had to work really hard to brush and floss to get my teeth to feel really clean. Teeth and gums still didn't feel as clean or look as good as they do after switching to Salivea. Some of my patients who have been using Biotene Dry Mouth toothpaste haven't been getting the good results they used to have. Maybe aging? Maybe medications? Maybe something else? The original Biotene used to contain salivary enzymes but the brand was sold to another company and the formula was changed so it no longer contains these enzymes. Some patients who have switched to other SLS-free toothpastes have seen good results. Some have seen better results but not great results. They still seem to have to work hard at cleaning their teeth. I had heard about Salivea several years ago in a professional publication but that was before it became readily available. The company that originated Biotene started this Salivea brand and is producing this toothpaste, mouth rinse and mouth spray for improving the oral care of people who suffer from dry mouth. Initially, I was a little disappointed at the mild mint flavor (I usually like stronger mint). But over the past 2 months of using it, I've come to really like it. My teeth feel cleaner after brushing, feel cleaner longer than with other toothpastes, I don't have to brush as hard or as long and don't have to floss as hard and my mouth just feels better. To summarize, I DON'T HAVE TO WORK AS HARD to clean my teeth and gums. That's always a good thing. Some of the critical reviews expressed disappointment because the reviewer's mouth was still dry. Dry mouth can be the result of a number of different reasons. Remember that this is NOT a drug to treat/cure dry mouth. It IS a product to help clean teeth and make the dry mouth more comfortable. I believe my good results are not just because it's SLS-free but because of the added salivary enzymes. I started recommending Salivea Dry Mouth toothpaste to patients but won't get to check the results for 3-6 months when they come back for their next appointment. Stay tuned...

Works well for dry mouth
This toothpaste tastes fine but does not foam. This is a good thing because sodium laurel sulfate (soap) dries out your mouth, so says my hygenist. After using for about 2 weeks, I can say that my dry mouth is less of a problem. This still has fluoride, so still good for your teeth in preventing cavities. Has a mild, minty taste, not overpowering.

I have severe dry mouth. All other toothpastes make my mouth burn unbearably. The flavour is a mild mint that doesn’t bother my mouth at all. This toothpaste is a godsend. Until you get to the price. It was barely affordable when it was $10 a tube. Now it’s $20!!! WTH? I have Sjögren’s syndrome and this is a need not a want.

I’ve been using Sensodyne… has a much better flavour than this one. This one doesn’t create much foam. I’m also using Salivea Mouth Wash for dry mouth before bed… that seems to work somewhat, but masks the effectiveness of their toothpaste… so I don’t know if the toothpaste works.
