## Overview

Principles of Supply Chain Management is a used textbook offering a broad, integrated view of supply chain dynamics, emphasizing sustainability, collaboration, and real-world applications. Ideal for professionals seeking conceptual mastery and strategic insight into evolving supply chain practices.

## Description

Going beyond the usual supply chain text, Principles of Supply Chain Management not only details the individual components of the supply chain but also illustrates how the pieces must come together. Providing the logic behind why supply chain management is essential, the text examines how supply chains are evolving, looks ahead to future developments, and also provides a balanced look at supply chains with a focus on where it needs to be―the customer. It also: Describes the forward supply chain (from the supplier to the customer) and the reverse supply chain (recycling) Reviews contemporary sustainability concepts including triple bottom line, cradle-to-grave, and cradle-to-cradle Includes extensive discussions on retailing, distribution, and manufacturing topics Details supply chain flows of physical goods, information, and funds Highlights the need for coordinated change in technology, infrastructure, and cultures among supply chain members From the point of distribution all the way back to the point of origin, the text provides examples and case histories that illustrates a proven approach for achieving effective supply chain integration. This self-contained resource provides readers with a realistic appraisal of the state of the art in supply chain management and the understanding needed to build and manage effective supply chains in a wide-range of industries. Most importantly, it emphasizes the need for building and maintaining cooperation and collaboration among all members of the supply chain.

Review: Really Good Introductory Text Book - This text is a really good introductory book for teaching the fundamental concepts of supply chain management. The text itself has several unique strengths over other supply chain texts. As a fundamentals text it focuses the reader on a big picture understanding of the evolution of supply chain management and the impacts is has had on specific companies, industries, and economies. It focuses strongly on conceptual understanding and has less quantitative analysis. Many books treat the wide variety of supply chain topics as a collection of independent or somewhat loosely connected topics that make up the umbrella subject of supply chain management. This text approaches supply chain management as a complex, highly integrated set of functions. Key topics are introduced in a very understandable and logical fashion and then subsequent chapters build on understanding the breadth and depth of these topics while always emphasizing their interdependence and impacts on business performance. Probably the greatest strength of this book as a text book is the collection of resources the authors have assembled in the instructor's guide. In addition to standard items like slides, test banks, learning objectives, and discussion questions, the authors have provided an extensive list of supporting articles, web videos, special topics presentations, and cases to support each chapter. If you are looking for an introductory text in supply chain management with excellent real-world resources to support student engagement, this book is well worth considering.
Review: Frustrating - I have only read 6 chapters so far, so this is not my final review but I am so frustrated right now that I couldn't wait to review this book. Let me first explain my needs: I bought this book because I am preparing the Apics CSCP certification and it is part of the reference list. I am a Supply Chain professional with 4 years experience and a Master's degree in Supply Chain management, so my needs were to refresh my knowledge about key concepts in SCM. The main reason why I am not satisfied with this book is that I find it lacks clarity and conciseness: - You do not find the information you are looking for easily. For example, you are reading a sub-chapter called X, so you expect to know about X. But you find mainly information about Y and Z. It is like if the titles and the paragraphs were arranged randomly. - There are a lot of generalities and descriptions of macro-phenomenons and not enough practical information - There are many examples of real companies, but I found that they often do not relate directly to the subject they were supposed to illustrate I personally do not like this book and find it inadequate for my needs. But maybe it will be suited for another category of people. Though I do not recommend it to college students.
