So easy to work under the hood now
It’s really nice, no rod in the way, no plastic clip to break and when you release the hood it raises so nice. I think jeep should ask rough country about some deal

A good investment
I had origionally bought a Hooke Road hood lift/support kit and when it arrived had numerous pieces, crap instructions and just didnt look to be a high quality. So I got this from RC. For starters they have a video for assembly on their website. Far less pieces and looks like an all around better quality. The starting part to hold and catch the first two nuts was a bit tricky by myself leaning over the front and trying to keep my fingers on the wedge while keeping it flush and enough pressure to catch the bolt. I found duct taping the bracket to the hood helped as it freed up the extra hand I didnt have. After that all went quickly. So far its working as expected and making closing and opening the hood easier. I think its also good as it prevents the hood accidentaly falling back to far and slamming the window or frame.

installed , but !
explanintion is pretty easy by following the insturcation manual provided , minor issues are the lifters , are not powerfull to lift the bonnet , when relasing the latch in the front . you need to lift it in the front a bit to help the lifters up and when installing the lower lifters strats on the lines metal brace , the brace is flamzy and maybe after sometime will bend . so we keep the observation in the mean time ,

Inexpensive but a good value. Glad I bought it.
My TJ came to me with no hood prop, so it's been mildly annoying to have to flip it all the way up onto the top of the windshield every time I need to get under the hood. RC doesn't have the best reputation among Jeep tinkerers (mostly for having inexpensive lift kits that aren't great), but I hoped that something as basic as gas struts to hold up a hood would be okay. As it turned out, this product is decent and I'm glad I got it. The instructions are fairly clear and the rest of it you can figure out yourself. It was very helpful having a step-bit for my drill that could cut sheet metal easily. The TJ hood has a sheet-metal ridge running down the center of the interior side of the hood, and that's what you need to drill through to attach the mounting plate that comes with this kit. The risk of not having a step bit is that you might punch through the inner layer and accidentally also through the outer layer, making a hole all the way through the hood. You can also mitigate this with a block of wood but it's hard to get it in place, whereas a step bit is easy. Once the drilling is done, the rest is pretty easy. It's a bit awkward to attach the gas struts to the installed mounting hardware (you need to hold the hood up and hold the gas strut in place and pop it onto the mounting hardware, all at the same time) but it's doable. I have had the engine-side mounting brackets rotate a bit and that caused the gas struts to pop off of them, but that happed while I was lifting the hood (not when the engine was running) and it was pretty easy to put them back and tighten things down. All in all, money well spent. I really like having the automatic hood prop.

My second hydraulic hood lift
My old hydraulic hood lift was starting to loose it's oomph. I priced out some new struts for it, but opted instead to get this new version. My friend just installed one on his Wrangler and I liked it. My last hood lift kit lasted about 10 years, and actually was still doing a good job. It just seemed to need a little more of a boost opening. This new one pops the hood right up. I installed it by myself, but it would have been much easier with another set of hands. My Jeep is lifted, and getting into the middle of the hood for drilling holes and fastening nuts was cumbersome. I accidentally poked the hood with my drill bit and left a little dimple on the top; so be careful drilling. I also couldn't hold the nut thing with one hand and screw in the bolt with the other the way it was configured. My wrists didn't turn that way. I bent a flat washer in half and taped it to the nut thingy. That made it easy to hold in place while inserting the bolt. It looks a little red neck, but it's out of sight. :) All in all, I'd recommend this hood kit to everyone.

Jeep TJ Hood Lift, now that's what I'm talking about!!!!
I am now wondering why Jeep did not install this on my 2004 TJ at the factory.. It’s a great product. It works just as advertised. I watched RC’s video three times and read the instructions several times. You must pay attention to details and study the photos as well. I would say it took me about an hour to round up tools, install, and put things away. I would have finished much sooner but I had trouble holding onto the flag nuts while attempting to screw the bolt through the hood bracket onto the hood. The tools needed list shows a 11/32" drill bit. Step 4 tells you to use a 5/16” bit. It really did not matter, I used the 5/16" that I had both in step 1 and 4, and it worked. The quality of the product and being able to have the hood lift up on its own makes the price very reasonable. Thank you Rough Country.
