But can be used ONLY in applications with a 2.4" and a 1.4" tube. Useless for movable panel enclosures such as kennels or small livestock (goats, sheep, poultry, etc.) pens that have all 1.4 tubes. IF you need a butterfly that will self-latch when you close the gate, this will not work for you. We have spring closers on our temp goat pen gates, so the gates will always close by themselves. But the butterfly wings do not lift up by themselves when the latch contacts the post. Children, employees in a hurry, and the occasional absent-minded husband, sometimes tend to forget to close the gate -- hence the spring closers. But since the butterfly does not automatically engage, you lose the value of the spring closer, and you spend a lot of time rounding up stray goats / dogs/ poultry / etc..But maybe the butterfly will work properly if you have 2.4" posts, or you don't mind closing the gate by hand and lifting the butterfly wings manually.Finally, on the product we received, the u-bolt had some stripped threads, so we were not able to mount the latch onto the 1.4" post until we restored the thread using a thread cutter. So when you receive the latch, immediately test the threads on the u-bolt. Don't wait until you try to install the latch out in the pasture.Amazon and Jake Sales get five stars. The latch gets four stars because of its application limitations, and the stripped threads. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far so good. *by C***B on Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2020* This is a pretty solid butterfly latch for a good price.I needed a butterfly latch on my chain link fence gate, and wanted it to auto shut as well. I initially had a problem with the space between the gate pole and the opposite fence pole, it was too much of a gap. So when I tried to shut the gate, it would NOT auto latch. But as stated in the instructions it needs to be within a certain distance to work effectively and I was outside of that distance.So I simply decided to buy a longer U bolt, and use something as a spacer to move the latch off the pole on my gate a bit, so it would be closer to the main fence pole it was trying to latch on. I first used a block of wood, but it did not work so well. I was a bit limited on materials I had, but found some solid aluminum rod about 3/4 inch or so. After cutting it to length I used it as a spacer to bolt to the fence post but also bring it away from the post to within the tolerance in the instructions. Not as good as block of metal, but it actually ended up being VERY solid once clamped down. And after touching it all up with some chain link fence spray paint looks pretty good too, although the rain lately spotted it up a bit hehe but most important it works well. I put a decent sized spring on the gate and wired the other side of the latch down, to make a one way gate that auto shuts itself to help keep my crazy dog inside my yard. The gap between the gate and other fence post is plenty to open from the inside, now I dont have to worry about myself or anyone else accidentally leaving the gate open and my dog getting loose. I will update this review if any problems with the latch happen, but it seems pretty well built.So far its a 5 out of 5, recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Didn't work as hoped *by M***K on Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2021* Like other reviews have said, the finish is pretty rough and poor.I installed it, with just enough space for the body of the latch to clear my post, but it didn't work as hoped. The latches don't have the right angle to re-latch automatically, they just bang into the gate. It could be that my post is painted with exterior gate paint, preventing it from sliding properly, but even if it were bare steel, I'd have doubts.Regardless, it's not a guarantee that it'll work, even if you have it measured properly.
