Praying God's Word: Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds Review: This can take you on an incredible spiritual journey - I approached this book wrong from the start. I was looking to see what the author could offer me regarding various spiritual strongholds, but I quickly realized how she actually crafted the book in a way that introduces the topic, and then gives me tools to see what God has to say to my heart. After a brief topic introduction, she supplies many, many verses to pray. Somehow it all comes together to be more than simple spiritual discourse or a simple topical list of scriptures. She paraphrases the verses into prayer form and helps bring clarity and new depth of meaning to scriptures. She addresses many pertinent topics, and doesn't shy away from the difficult ones. If you are looking to be free from a stronghold, this is a great resource to help bring an understanding of the role of spiritual warfare, and to have specific prayers to start with. Somewhere in the many verses with be several you personally connect with and can keep in mind or copy into a prayer journal or onto an index card for your mirror. I used this book in a small group, and it helped us discuss a lot of sensitive issues. It will be a great book to go back to whenever I find myself in a "pit." There is no guilt in this book. No "try harder." There is much acceptance, compassion and loving guidance. I will re-emphasize, though, that this book probably won't be effective for "casual" reading. To meet its purpose, it is best taken slowly and prayerfully, and with a heart of surrender. Reading the verses out loud truly does change their impact and personalize them. This book is a keeper. Review: Praying Scripture is POWERFUL! - The scriptural prayers in this book just flow! They are not awkward or stilted and yet closely reflect the wording of the verses they are based on. My copy of this book is underlined and marked with stars and hearts. I have spent hours walking and meditating and repeating the prayers that resonate with me. It has been an invaluable resource for me. No other book has effected me as profoundly as this one with the exception of the Bible itself. These prayers literally have the power to change my emotions. I have given this book to many, many people. Beth Moore gives a very insightful introduction to each of the fourteen strongholds she addresses. When I first purchased the book I glanced through the table of contents. The stronghold I was looking for was not listed. I set the book aside feeling very disappointed. But once I picked it up and started reading I knew it was for me and for any other person serious about spiritual maturity. The stronghold I was looking for was addressed at the end of the book through a topical list of scriptures. Space was provided for the reader to write their own prayers based on the scriptures listed.

Praying Scripture is POWERFUL!

This book gave me my life back...
I really love this book. Back in 2010-2011 I went through a very difficult time. I was having panic attacks, heart palpitations, couldn't eat, felt very unhappy and depressed. I couldn't function in my everyday life. I found no joy in the things that I used to enjoy. I knew that I needed help. In the summer of 2011, I reached my breaking point. I had two small children at home and I needed to be the best mom I could be to them. I wanted to be a good wife to my husband and I wanted to feel happy in my skin again. I wanted to be me. I wanted to enjoy life and this wasn't living. I went to see my doc in August 2011 and I shared with him what I was going through. He suggested taking an antidepressant and I struggled with it at first. However, for the sake of my sanity and my family, I decided to take it. It helped. ALOT. However, I made the decision that I was going to find the answer as to why I was feeling like this. I started Christian counseling and one evening I looked at my home library for something to read and I stumbled across this book. I had completely forgotten I had bought this book a year before. To be honest, I had never heard of Beth Moore but that day at the book store, this book caught my attention and I bought it. However, when I got home, I put in on the book shelf and completely forgot about it. However, God is so good and He knew that what would happen. So I picked up the book and I started reading. For me, I didn't read the book from beginning to end. I prayed and asked God to show me what stronghold topic I was to read for that day and I did and I read and meditated on the scriptures. One day I knew I was to read the stronghold of losing a loved one. I didn't want to read it. I felt a huge hurt in my heart. Even though I didn't know what were written on those pages on that subject, I felt like I was going to look at a mirror and a reflection I wasn't going to like. But I prayed and asked God to help me and in the evening I made the decision to be brave and read the chapter. Little did I know that the chapter would bring the breakthrough I was praying for. My husband and I lost a son a couple of hours after he was born back in 2002. When I was 5 months pregnant with him, we found out through an ultrasound that he had Potter's Syndrome and tumors in either his liver or kidneys (doctors could never pinpoint where since there wasn't enough amniotic fluid to see clearly). For 9 years, I suffered with his loss even though I thought time had healed my wounds. I was so wrong. It was a supernatural experience what happened that night but the only way I can describe it is if the blinds had been removed from my eyes and I could finally see why I was going through this depression. I had not dealt with the loss of my son and I had not healed. I cried like I had never cried before. For the first time since his passing, I could finally ask God to heal me of his loss and I could finally let go of the guilt I felt of not being able to save him. I continued with my counseling for a couple of weeks after that and I stopped taking the antidepressant in November 2011. Beth Moore doesn't know this but she had a huge part in giving me my life back. I thank God for her and the important part she had in my life. I have gifted this book to a dear friend who was having a difficult time as well and I have also recommended this book to family members. They too have purchased the book. If you are trying to find answers as to why you feel a certain way or why you are going through a certain situation, this book has valuable information to help one break free from the strongholds in one's life. Seek and you shall find. Matthew 7:7-8

THIS BOOK IS ONE TO HAVE IN YOUR SPIRITUAL/CHURCH LIBRARY!
My wife first introduced me to this book; it is so helpful in my spiritual journey! The contents enable one to explore, discover and diligently work on strongholds that prevent you from having a deeper, fuller, meaningful relationship with God. The scripture prayers I use daily and work through the chapters as a portion of my daily devotions. My prayer life has improved using the Scriptures and chapters Beth Moore has shared in this book and has been a major turning point in my spiritual journey. I loved it so much that I purchased 15 copies to share with members of the small church I serve as their Interim Pastor in Georgia. I strongly recommend it so much that I was willing to put it in their hands to move us in the direction of praying deeper and discovering, through listening, God's will for our congregation! This is an outstanding book! Sincerely, in Christ, Pastor Phil Clark, St. John's Lutheran Church, Rincon, GA
