will this shaver works well in the pubic area?

Yes it works real well. As stated above you need to shave the hair short to about 1mm or less and then use this great shaver. Very comfortable and safe and will not hurt or cut you in anyway. Use the Cleancut PS335 for shortening the hair and then this shaver.

Sorry to be so graphic but ok it's a close shave, not bare, but that could mean stubble level close or soft and fuzzy close. Which would you say?

It works very well for knocking down the fuzz. It may not be a razor shave, but I have never had an issue getting the area to a point that feels like a shave. Seems that's the point, so who cares what may take a microscope to see was left behind. It's a better shave than any electric shaver I have ever used on my face or anywhere else. What's left is a smooth, soft, and bare area.

I have horrible itching after shaving due to irritation. Does this cut down on the itching?

I had some irritation after using this shaver...much like other shavers.

How many batteries and what size needed?

One "AA" battery, and it seems to last for a "while."
