It is suppose to let line out fast. If it stops that means it stops letting line.** A: Well the way i read this if you are using the handle to let line out you must do this in reverse mode. the handle is for reeling in line or fishing on the bottom you can reverse the handle to let line out. But you must use a heaver weight **Q: Is it a left handed reel???** A: The handle can be changed to either left or right hand retrieve. Like any hex shaft handle setup you have to keep aware that the retaining screw part on the opposite side has a natural tendency to loosen up over time. Still a decent reel for the money. **Q: I was using it to slow retrieve and it wasn't smooth or fluid, it kept stuttering. Anything i can do to make it more smooth? (first time usage)** A: Sounds like something is wrong with either the oscillating gear/slide or the meshing of the drive gear and oscillator gear. However I encountered the same problem with a lesser quality reel and it was a slightly bent main shafts the spool goes up and down on. It's a new reel, make a warranty/return claim. This is the second Sougayilang reel that I have purchased and the first one is butter....very very smooth. This one is a not as smooth, not bad though, have not had a chance to open up and grease properly.My kids caught a number of Fluke and 5lb. Bluefish I believe it's the XY1000. I've read reviews and seen videos bashing this brand concerning rust and or corrosion. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way some grease and oil prevented any issues at all while using it in saltwater. Inexpensive reel great value for the money.
