This tank comes with.... - A pump and filter. It is quiet other than the water movement, which is actually quite relaxing. You need to change this monthly from what I understand. It has a low and hi setting. - A heater. It is not adjustable but seems to be holding the temp just fine for our Tropical GloFish. - A Color Fusion light. It cycles through the colors, you can press the button to halt in on a color if you wish. There is not an off button, so if you want the light off at night you will need to either unplug it or put it on a timer. So if you are counting that is 3 outlet openings that you will need and you should probably have this going to a ground fault outlet, which we did. - Comes with a few Color Fusion decorations and a really nice sea anemone decoration. -A net, a little packet of water conditioner, and a small packet of fish food. -A Thermometer - ours was missing this, but the company was really helpful in getting that resolved. What you will need to get: - You will need to get some more decorations for sure. No gravel comes in the kit. I bought a total of 34 lbs of gravel, All black for the base and then 2 - 2lbs of color glo gravel, and 2 small bags of gem rocks. - More fish food and water conditioner - A gravel vacuum - A background for the tank. I used black Cricut Vinyl. - The FISH :) April 2019 EDIT: After an estimated 9000 hours the light has quit working. We leave the light on about 12-14 hours a day and shut it off at night. I am not finding what they state the life of the light should be, however, other companies that sell similar lights claim a guarantee for 50000 hours. I will let you all know what I find out. After finding a couple different contact emails with various responses one sent me a replacement light. We have the new one on a timer that is one 8 hours per day. We have a llevo and 5 Flo fish in the tank. And pleco like dark to get out and eat that algea so that is why the light settings Review: Good buy - I wish it was bit longer instead of taller. Most of your gallons are in height but the tank itself is beautiful and my sharks love it. Easy to clean and the heater that comes with it works great to keep the water warm. I have no leaks or cracks and the filter that comes with it works good. It is a bit louder than other ones but it puts in work. And had a great waterfall sound. It is decently heavy so be prepared to lift with your knees. There are no self-cleaning aquariums. Filters reduce your maintenance. Without a filter, you would do a partial water change every 1-2 days with a gravel vacuuming. With filtration in place, you typically do a good vacuuming and 30% water change every 30 days for a tank this size, but that is dependent on the types of inhabitants, and the quantity of them. Replace filter media monthly, and take the filter system apart every couple of months. Once your tank has been up for a month or so, begin adding Tetra EasyBalance Plus weekly to help reduce the frequency of water changes, and maintain water quality in between them. **Q: How many fish could you put in the 20 gallon tetra tank? We'd like to keep guppies, a cory cat or 2 and maybe some shrimp?** A: Considering the species you wish to keep, we would recommend one male guppy to two or three females (keep in mind they breed like rabbits) or a group of 5 to 8 male guppies, and at least 3 or 4 corydoras catfish of the same variety. Total number of fish should be 10-12. As to shrimp, that will depend a little on what type but typically for this size tank, about 4 to 6 should be fine. Add these first so they can grow to a mature size and not be eaten by the fish. Provide plenty of plant coverage as well. **Q: Anyone else have a problem with the filter? Its not working properly, doesnt intake water and just gurgles. Also lid on it doesnt fit.** A: Make sure your tank is filled to the top with water. Also, since the lid is not fitting correctly, the intake tube may not be installed right. Make sure it is all the way down into the filter box. Petco has 50% off 'bare' glass tanks right now (July 2021). Kits usually come with a poor filter and an LED light hood with barely any LED's in it, so people usually end up replacing both within a few weeks, so check on the descriptions, pictures, and reviews.
