Pepperidge Farm Chessmen Cookies, 7.25-ounce (pack of 6)

I first tried these over the holidays, and fell in love with their buttery flavor. They're reminiscent of shortbread, but not as heavy. I've found these locally, but they're not stocked that often, and are priced higher. I was able to get 12 packages here on Amazon for less than my supermarket, and I haven't had any issues with broken or crushed cookies. I've gone through about 5 packages so far, and I think I found 3 broken cookies in the whole lot. They work well with tea, coffee, even spread with Nutella. Just a couple in the afternoon can satisfy my sweet cravings -- just about perfect! I would definitely purchase again, but it's going to take ma awhile to get through this bunch.

Most Pepperidge Farm cookies these days are made with shortening instead of butter, the big exception are these delicious Chessmen cookies. They don't say butter on the front, but they absolutely are BUTTER cookies. Butter is the second ingredient after flour. The packing was four packages lined up on a oversized heavy piece of cardboard, and then the whole thing wrapped in heavy plastic. This was in a box with other items all cushioned with air pillows. Our four pack arrived in perfect shape, no broken cookies with a good expiration date (3 months away). Only downside is the cornstarch they use in the recipe which gives them a slight powdery after mouth feel.

These are so buttery and tasty! A real treat!

The only issue was that many of the cookies were broken. But these cookies were still delicious, buttery and crunchy and that they were broken was not a problem for us at all. Love them!

these cookies haven't really changed that much; they are basically a butter cookie that has been glazed ever so lightly. Perfect snack to put out in front of guests when serving tea, or as a light snack at work when you need something a little sweet, but don't want to overdo it by eating a candy bar or worse yet birthday cake!

This cookie is very good. I eat as many as I dare, but my primary use is a a substitute for graham crackers when making 'crumb' pie shells for ice box pies and cheese cakes. They work wonderfully and provide an alternative flavor. Also great as a substitute cookie for making that Southern favorite, banana pudding.

These cookies are -so- good, and there are a lot in the package compared to other types of Pepperidge Farm cookies. But, all 4 bags arrived broken up. Taste is still good, but it's messier to eat that way. I'd recommend buying them in the store.

I bought this when it was priced at $10. Now my neighboring Kroger sells them at $2.5 each pack, or $10 for 4 packs. Amazon, in contrast, has raised the price to an unbelievable $18.48, or more than $4 per pack. I have no idea what's going on, but I will not buy these from Amazon again.
