Works for generac generator load balancing
Dryer GENERAC relay went bad. Same replacement. Worked great and saved more than half the money of the last time it went bad and back up generator installer fixed it.All the modules are terribly made. Too hot all the time. Maybe make the housing with vents all over.Hey this works and saves money of someone else doing it.

Perfect out of the box
Arrived fast. This was connected to our wall ovens and the wife was happy to shopping for new ovens until I explained this module was not working and transferring power. Ordered the part, arrived the next day, installed in less than 30 min and ovens work fine. Now my wife wishes she married someone less capable as I am affecting her shopping experience!

You Will Need This Load Shed Controller On Larger Homes When Installing A Standby Generator
I am a master electrician and electrical engineer. I bought and installed my own Generac Standby Generator for my home as the companies wanted 3 times what you can install it for yourself. I went to my local city, pulled a homeowners electrical AND plumbing permit for the gas line. The gas line was so simple it was silly. When installing a residential generator, buyers need to understand that the largest for the general public is 26,000 watts, because the larger ones make far too much noise. 26,000 watts is usually not large enough to handle a large home like mine (3500 sq ft). You must turn in a load calculation to get an electrical permit and the load on my home was 40,000 watts. This does not mean the generator will not work. You just have to LOAD SHED some of the most non-used, high wattage items inside the home to get the load down to 26,000 watts. Generac invented this Load Shed Controller. You install this inline with whatever you want to shed to pass inspection. I installed 3 of them. One on my 8000 watt wall oven that we never turn on. One on my 5000 watt dryer that does not need to be used during power outages. One on my 3000 watt garage air conditioner as I want to keep my garage cool. Once these are installed, when the generator turns on from a power outage, these 3 items remain OFF. But only for 5 minutes each. You choose which one is most important and dial it in as #1 on this unit. After 5 minutes, it turns on. If everything is working well and the generator does not have too much of a load, then it turns on #2, and so on. If all of the Load Shed boxes are ON, and the generator detects too much of a load, it starts turning these boxes OFF, one at a time in reverse order. It may only turn off 1 of them and the generator is happy and stops turning off anything else. This controller is amazing and the only way to shed a load from a larger home when installing a generator system

make sure it's the 7000 series
so far one works. all 3 had to be replaced after 4 - 6 years. terrible quality. the electrician tells me that this new 7000 series is much more stable and he hasn't had to replace one yet. these were relatively simple to install but you're working with 240v high amp systems. make sure the contactor/breaker is off then measure for any residual should you want to change it yourself. typically, after disabling the source, i just short the leads to make sure the load is fully discharged. it's simple enough to just match the settings of the module being replaced.

Easy to install.
Easy to install if you take safety precautions s (shut off electric to item). I replaced on a a/c unit. Another one was replaced by a tech. When I saw how easy it was I did the next one.If you have a generator and the a/c, electric oven, etc. does not work first thing to check is this switch. No red light means no power to the switch. The switch has been upgraded.

Very poorly engineered and Generac knows it.
Here's what I sent to Generac customer service 8/26/2024:I am very disappointed with your 7000 SMM because I have replaced 4 of them in my home system and now a 5th one has failed. I bought the replacements October 2020, December 2020, April 2021 and November 2023. My Generac 22kw was installed 8/25/2018 and works perfectly. Either your design is flawed or the components are not robust enough for the job. I want you to send me a new SMM free of charge because it should last longer and is expensive to buy at $150 each.I sent this to Generac 8/30/2024:From what I was told today, I would need to have a dealer confirm that I have a defective SMM and then you would send him a replacement. The dealer would have to come to my house to install it and charge me for installation. They would charge $250 for installation which is $100 more than if I just buy the part myselfWhy won’t you answer my question about the poorly designed and built SMM?You know that they are not reliableThe dealers know they are not reliableThe customers know that they are not reliableYour lawyers know that they are not reliable, and have probably instructed you to not admit that they are poorly designed and built.Generac has a great reputation for its generators. Why can’t you make a module with the same quality as your generator?I challenge you to respond to me truthfully.

Save time and money
This part saved me several hundred dollars in repairs costs. These are notorious for melting down and was not covered under warranty for us. Got tired of waiting for the service provider to contact us because it was causing the AC not to work in 90 degree heat, so I ordered this and installed it myself after a lot of research. If you are comfortable disconnecting and reconnecting some wires, it only takes a few minutes to install. I removed the insides and reused the existing housing. It has been working fine after a few months. May order another one as a spare.
