The Axe Gang Hatchet is razor sharp, comes with a small rubber cover to protect the user from the edge, pretty much worthless as the axe is so sharp. Need to acquire some leather cover or something better and that is my only gripe. It is a heavy axe. Has an American Hickory Handle, and to top it off....Rick Grimes uses it in a few seasons of the Walking Dead. That is not the reason I purchased it. I just love Cold Steel blades. This will probably reside under the driver seat of my Jeep Rubicon. Never know when you may need to hack a limb off of something! Great for bushcraft or emergency situations. Compare this to an Eastwing hatchet for the price, which are also top of the line. BTW, I happen to carry an Eastwing rock hammer under the driver seat as well since my kids are rock hounds. My buddy got 2 of them but not sure where he found them. Will update when I know more. Great axe though, freaking love it for throwing **Q: will a standard cold steel axe handle fit it?** A: Yes item H90AT for $9.99 on coldsteel.com will fit. **Q: I'm looking for a regulation throwing axe. Will this work** A: You will need to cut down the handle for both WATL and NATF. Most people cut it to 17" then trim down as needed to suit their throw. Personally I settled on cutting it at the top of the first chinese character. If you are a beginning thrower, I would not actually recommend this axe. The handles break easily if they constantly hit the target or floor. Find one that is more robust to hone your throw then move to this one when you stick 80% of the time. NATF has a maximum length of 17" WATL has a maximum length of 19" **Q: Any recommendations for a replacement hande? mine broke within the first few throws** A: Yeah, stick it in the wood and you won't break it ;). LOL sorry. I couldn't resist. I used a Truper 13" curved handle to replace the broken one I had. It took some custom fitting though because the eye of this axe is much smaller than most. Chances are, you'll have to do a lot of custom fitting anyways. If you want a straight handle, I think Stiletto makes a decent one. It is perfect for a short term camping trip. It is also perfect for cutting small limbs from a tree if you are pruning. It is compact but still practical. It’s RAZOR sharp out of the box. It does not have a cover or holster of any sort. I will be making a cover out of kydex (thermo plastic).
