Are the sizes for the European size or American size?

I ordered this this twice. I placed my order on Amazon knowing these sports shirts normally run a little small. The 1st order I ordered XL and they sent a large, I returned it. The 2nd time I ordered the XXL and they sent the XL, which was the size I was going for on the 1st order. ✅. Absolutely love the shirt for my husband.
