I have a smaller qumi q5 for travel. This one is the winner for the following reasons:- strong light source in ambient light can still give out a decent contrast and color saturation at a 90" size- 3D is so easy it's amazing how you just plug and play (I have a whole list of equipment that I bout to get my Q5 to play3D!)- built in player that supports planning files directly from a portable HDD up to 650GB by my own experience (all file types are supported).- the magic remote is super cool and very easy to use. I have not even bothered to use the conventional remote because all the menses are there on the screen.- the built in TV tuner is a nice addition to replace a living room TV.- decent built in speakers and the unit makes no noise at all! From what I noticed it works with LG App Sore web page only ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Small, feature packed, powerful projector *by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2014* This is my 4th projector. And its delightful. This replaces the Panasonic AE100 that I owned prior to this. I am led foremost by convenience. And I love this projector for its all in one feature bundling. I rip movies on to a hard disk and play them from the in built usb player. One of the cons with all LG in-built usb players, whether they be on their Tvs or their projectors is shoddy ratio manipulation. I absolutely hate the horizontal black bars on top of the 2.35-1 ratio movies when they are adjusted to 16:9. The equipment should give you the flexibility to stretch it to fill 16:9 and let you take a call if things look weird in that vertically stretched view. Changing headers in video manipulation software does not work with the LG usb built in players. My solution was to re encode the video with the new size itself only in Handbrake. This drawback out of the way, the projector meets every expectation. I have two Tvs – one a plasma 720P and a LED 1080p. And I have done blind tests with people asking them to pinpoint the higher resolution from a distance of 7-10 feet. And the responses are 50:50. Unless one expects to watch a display from a very small distance, lets say 1/2 feet or less, there is no evident difference between a 720P and a 1080P picture. In short, 720P on the projector is perfect. This 1080P full HD, to me, is more a psychological ploy rather than a utilitarian one. The picture on the projector is perfect. It requires a little tweaking though. This projector's brightness is 700 lumens whereas earlier projectors I owned had specs of 2000 lumens or more. Picture calibration articles on the net recommend contrast and sharpness to be adjusted to the half way mark – but i found the picture to be dull with these settings– what worked for me was turning the contrast up to the highest level of 100. Also some fiddling around with advanced settings was required. A curious one was setting the black level to high seemed to, in my perception, create a washed out picture and grayish blacks – i could see the deepest blacks with black level set to low. With some repeated tinkering for 2/3 minutes the first 3/4 times i have been able to set it up to present what i see as a stunningly rich, bright picture.And the two built in speakers, definitely not theater class, work for me. I have no more to waste energy on hooking it up to the 5.1 home theater sound system. The effect obviously is not remotely close to the one obtainable from the home theater system but in a tradeoff between convenience and impactful sound, a heavy watcher like me will settle for the convenience. One of the projectors i owned earlier had in built speakers but the effect was jarring with the picture beaming 10 feet away and the sound seeming to come from a feet away. Not so with this one. The built in SRS Dolby feature seems to do some useful imaging. So as you get absorbed in a movie, the sound and picture seem acceptably correlated. Occasionally i hook it up with the sound system when I want big, heavy sound to accompany the picture.Which brings to my set up. My family refuses to ceiling mount a projector. Thus i have to set it up on the table every time. The Panasonic I owned earlier had manual horizontal and vertical lens displacement which allowed some placement flexibility – whereas i have to place the LG on an exact spot but compared to earlier projectors i owned this is a feather weight projector and this restriction poses no problems. I set up my drawing room in such a way that I place the projector about 12 feet away from a white painted wall to get a 140” diagnal picture – about 120” wide, 70” high – about 4 feet from the ground. I place it a table about 3 “ high and the projection sails past the sofas that are 2 feet in height thereby allowing me to see movies without shifting, moving anything. The 3D works - and all formats are supported – and you do not have to route it through a PC – it works natively from the projector – all you need is an input, whether it be through usb or hdmi. Of course you will need to buy the active 3d shutter glasses. However passive 3d on the tv seems to beat active 3d hollow on all parameters – convenience, lightness, brightness, price of glasses.Besides all these a host of other features which may come in handy. Built in office viewer impies i can use this for presentations and business meetings and project stuff straight from the usb. One can connect it to a PC/Laptop via HDMI/VGA – though to my mind, why would one forgo the convenience, mobility, compactness and lug around multiple pieces of equipment.It has built in wifi – so if one wished to play youtube etc – the feature is there.Can play TV through the antenna – i am doubtful if i am ever going to bother with that.On the whole then, the picture is great, the convenience is fantastic, with 20000 hours it can last forever – its a feature packed, small yet very powerful and compelling bundle.
