Tectonic 2 Large Backpack, Black, 18 x 13.3 x 8.6

This is a good backpack. I use it for work (manufacturing facility) and the gym and the size is perfect. It will fit in a locker at work and at the gym. The zippers are well-built and can take a lot of stress. I usually carry 2 water bottles in the smaller front pouch and the bag has held up well even with that much weight and volume in the bag. I've bought other backpacks on Amazon, but they were more cheaply made and the zippers broke with everyday use. I've had this one over a year now and everything is still completely intact. The small pocket at the top is good for carrying your keys, sunglasses, wallet, etc and my work laptop has never been damaged using the back pocket. Backpacks are performance items, so for this type of item you get what you pay for.

I mainly bought this backback because it has a luggage loop to easily attach to a wheeled suitcase. I got sick of my old laptop bag constantly falling off my suitcase (no one wants to wear a backpack if they don't have to). But after having this bag for a few months, it's quite clear how well thought out the design is. The padding is solid and it's quite roomy - I can fit all my laptop peripherals as well a few extra items with no trouble, and the large pouches on the side can actually fit my large 40oz water bottle, a rarity in my expericne! Easy access phone compartment is another great addition. Lots of little pouches and separators help you keep things organized. The laptop compartment has double zippers and is large and well padded. Two loops at the top give you the option of having a thick handle to carry it with or a small handle to hang it from, and of course the luggage loop so that you can attach to a suitcase handle. Clearly someone put some time into developing a backpack that's well equipped for just about any scenario. Perfect for travel or just going to the coffee shop!

It should have pockets on the sides, like older versions, but otherwise Samsonite quality.

I am a college student studying to be a Computer Network Support specialist, and believe that having a great dependable bag to hold my laptop for classes and future internship of basic computer responsibilities and troubleshooting and diagnosing computer networks on the go, I would definitely choose this bag even though it cost me almost $90. But how I see it is, if the item helps you greatly price matters not. I have been waiting to post a review about the Samsonite Tectonic second generation backpack for a little while, but I had to field test this first and help customers looking for a large backpack to find what they need with all honesty. It has simply put been the best backpack I have ever had, I owned the first generation backpack, but was disappointed in that because when set down to stand on its own it would keep falling, but now with better more sturdier materials this backpack is surely a milestone in improved quality and overall performance. It’s larger The water bottle holders on the sides have been improved. Unlike the annoying red strap holder on the first Gen backpack Better laptop only sleeve in which come in two sizes to match the size of a laptop from 15'' to 18'' laptops. The inside pockets are more suede and pose less scratch, chances to devices and objects. The backpack straps are vastly improved and much more comfortable than the 1st Gen Tectonic. I use this backpack for travel. I always carry an I pad or laptop that needs protection. First off this thing is a Sampsonite. That means quality. Next it is thoroughly padded to protect your electronics. Lastly I love the compartment arrangements. It has a small zippered document pocket on the top outside which works great to put your passport and boarding passes in. I also use this small pocket for my cell phone and wallet while going through TSA security. Inside one of the main pockets are smaller zippered compartments also, perfect for car keys etc. if I were to have any complaint it would be with weight, it seems plenty heavy. But, hey you can’t get quality protection with a zip lock baggie!! I have owned 2 or 3 other brands of backpacks and I feel that this is the best so far. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I like it better than my Everki Atlas, because that thing is a brick. Really nice pack, but with a heavy and overbuilt laptop area. This is feather light, and has every pocket I need. Like all Samsonite packs, the straps suck, but they are not Backpacking packs, they are for travel and commuting, and the straps are fine for that. It's not the most fashionable pack, just black nylon, but it's not s fashion back pack, just utility. But it has a very high quality feel and look, It's very black if you know what I mean. I got the black on black one. It's big, not sure if it fits a 17.3 laptop, I think it says it fits most 17inch laptops? Mine is 15.6" so no prob. I need a big pack in the winter, extra everything as I live in Canada and it gets cold and rainy. Also this thing is pretty waterproof I'm sure, it's really heavy nylon web. I like the side pockets, a commuter bag needs open side pockets, no zippers, as water bottles, umbrellas, coffee travelers etc, need to go in and out seemlessly, one handed. They still need to be tight enough to not let said items fly out when running for a bus, cross light. It's a fine line, but it's really really important! That's about it, the glasses compartment could be wider at the mouth, as I put my whole glasses case in, and it fits, but I have to drop it in sideways, and then it can sit flat, so no biggee. Expensive.. I got one on the warehouse store for less, $60 or something, very happy at that price. I don't think I would pay $200 for it. But it is an Endgame Backpack. There is not much beyond this as far as a large winter commuter.

I purchased this large backpack to replace my old squeaky shoulder bag (Just don't buy shoulder bag for large heavy laptops unless you don't want your shoulder anymore!). The new Samsonite Tectonic 2 does a great job! It has plenty rooms and pockets so you can put different items in the right place where they should be. This backpack can fit most laptops from 15 to 17". Maybe too large to fit 14" or even smaller laptops because there is no strap inside the pocket to secure small laptops. My 17" laptop is well-protected thanks to the foam layer between compartments. The padded back and shoulder straps are pretty thick which give me extra comfort in travel. The handle is also large and comfortable to use. This backpack is well-made. The inside liner is soft cloth which is safe for device screens, and outside shell is some kind of sturdy nylon material (not sure if it is waterproof). The stitches are good and zippers are easy to use too. The only concern is the very outside pocket has no cap/sealing at the top and no draining holes at the bottom. So I am not sure if it will contain some water after a heavy rain, but so far so good. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a backpack to carry large screen laptops for daily work or travel.

Compré esta mochila para usarla en mis trayectos a la oficina. Lo que me gusta de ella es que es bastante amplia y me sirve para guardar mi lonche, un par de zapatos y hasta una chamarra por si la necesito para el frío. El materia es bastante grueso. La verdad es que Samsonite es un producto que te garantiza calidad y gusto por sus productos. Si buscas algo grande para guardas tus cosas esta mochila es una excelente opción. Lo único que no me gustó es que a los pocos meses se cayeron letras fronteras que dicen Samsonite.

I had a Samsonite backup I purchased perhaps 10 years ago that I've been using. Bits of it (mainly cosmetic) have fallen off (e.g. the rubber tags on the zips) and it has become frayed in parts. Finally decided to upgrade to this new Tectonic 2. The sizes of this and the old backpack are about the same, but there are 3 compartments as compared to the two previously in the new one. The material is also more resilient and stiffer. The bag keeps it's shape while the earlier bag would sag when placed on the floor. The downside to all this is that the bag is heavier than the old one. Other than the weight, the compartment for the laptop is better padded than the old bag - I had to add pieces of PU foam as there was only fabric protection. Generally happy with the new bag.
