About Planet Bike In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment. Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact. Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

It works for what it does.
I installed this on my Cannondale Quick hybrid. Installation was straightforward and the rack is sturdy and fits securely.Pros:--The rack is easy to install on a standard modern bike frame, and could be done even by someone who doesn't have a great deal of experience at bicycle maintenance. Some tools (an Allen wrench certainly, vise grips and/or end wrench helpful) will be required.--The rack is very sturdy. Once securely attached, I can bang on it and it will hardly budge. I can easily lift the bicycle up by the rack without it feeling strained or having it shifting or wobbling.--The rack easily accommodates my standard panniers, and would work for most panniers, baskets, etc., that don't use some type of proprietary rail or clip system. It does not have a lot of protrusions or unusual shapes that would get in the way of attaching standard cargo carriers.--The rack, for as sturdy as it is, is quite light and doesn't even really add noticeably to the weight of the bike. Still, if you wanted it off to save the weight at some point, deinstallation and reinstallation would be very straightforward.Cons:--(Deduct 1 star) The bolts that come with the rack feel soft and won't take the nut more than a few turns up (tried with several, so was not just a single cross thread). They work for temporary use, but will need to be replaced with better bolts and nuts from an actual hardware store. Decent nuts and bolts don't cost much; they should've gone to the trouble here.--The included long bolts could be too long in some cases, protruding into and interfering with the space for the chain or derailleur. That wasn't an issue in my case but is something to be cautious of.Overall, this is a good rack that will fit a standard frame with a minimum of fuss or engineering effort, and comes at a very reasonable cost. Bolts and nuts are cheap, but do plan on buying them if you get this. There are several adapters included for more unusual installations. As I didn't need any of them, I can't speak to their quality or usefulness.

Everyone will be saying, "Nice rack!"
I got this rack today and it installed in under 10 minutes! Very quick and easy. It came with perfectly clear instructions and all of the mounting hardware necessary. Admittedly, it was a bit tough to adjust the sliding arms, and that's where most of the time was for me. But still, we're talking under 10 minutes from package to being mounted, so no complaints!I've tried other racks in this price range and lower, and this one is the best so far. It's very lightweight and very strong. Well made, too. It looks great mounted on my Trek mountain bike. I bet it will look great on yours too.Installation tip: This rack, and pretty much ALL rear racks, are meant to be bent during the install. Please feel free to do so. I mention this only because of other reviewers saying it wasn't wide enough. It's not going to be, unless you're riding a fixie or something like that. There are so many different frames out there, combined with rear hub/cassette widths, it would be impossible to make various racks for all of the combinations. So racks are meant to be manhandled a bit during the install. Unless you're the Hulk or Hercules or somebody, you're not going to break it no matter how it feels.

So good the previous owner kept some parts!
My rack came with *only one* support stay instead of the two pictured, and it's got a right angle bend in it. The product is scuffed on the bottom as if someone has tried to mount it before. It was listed as new.I don't care if it's a restocked item, so long as *all* of the parts are included, and, they're not bent because someone tried an exotic mounting procedure :)I'm not even going to bother returning this, instead I'll order some replacement stays off Planet Bike's site, or just fabricate my own from some aluminum or mild steel stock. The product it's self is actually pretty good as far as I can tell. Tubular aluminum with welds that look like they penetrate deeply so it should be solid. I chose this design because it had the fewest number of failure points that I could see (unlike some of the more universal fit/adjustable racks on amazon)

Not bad for the price -- modification required
This is not a bad rack at all. In fact, I can sit on this rack with my full weight (180 # on a good day). I would not want to ride my bike like that, but this rack will carry a lot more weight than stated.Several reviewers have said, "This is not an over-sized rack." Read the description. It says that this rack (of normal size) is structured from over-sized tubular aluminum.I would have given this rack five stars but for this: It is hardly a universal fit. Of course, with hundreds of bike designs out there in the real world, what rack could fit everything? Really. I had to modify the front steel braces to fit into the screw hole of what I assume would be the rear fender mount, if I were to install a rear fender.Oh, here's a note of caution. The mounting kit comes with two shorter screws and two longer for attaching the bottom struts to the dropout. The longer screw might protrude into dangerous territory (ie, the location of your rear cassette and chain -- see pictures), and the shorter screw actually stripped the upper threads. I thereafter used the longer screw instead, and everything has worked well so far.The rack is very useful, lightweight, sturdy beyond specs, and truly a gem at this price. I would imagine with the included hardware that it would fit most bikes without much hassle.
