12 South BookBook is still one of my favorite products for my iPad
I love the BookBook! I have had several iPads over the years and no case/cover has taken my heart like the BookBook. It's not only looks nice, with its quality materials, but is does a wonderful job of protecting my equipment. It also disguises it, most people think it is a bible or a journal. I do have a few gripes about this version. Gone is the strap that would let you set the angle to just about anything as long as you could wrap the strap around the leather button. Now you have an option of just a few adjustment positions. It takes some work to have the iPad fit in perfectly (mine is still uneven). There is no camera hole in the back of the BookBook, so you have to under the button to access the camera hole, but then the iPad becomes very awkward to hold. Despite my gripes the 12 South BookBook is still one of my favorite products for my iPad. I would buy again many times over.

Great look that doubles as added security
I love this cover. It came in two business days and was easy to use. I'm a fanatic about old books and this imitates one perfectly. The worn look is well done, the brown sides and zipper looks like old pages (from a distance) and even the zipper tabs look like a ribbon bookmark. When I step out of my office, I just place another book on top of it and none are the wiser. The zipper was a little stiff on day one, but after three days it has already loosened up. The mini stand is positioned well to make it easy to type and flipping it makes a nice triangular fold for watching videos. Overall, I'm very happy and highly recommend it. My only request would be to add a pocket for a pen or maybe even a keyboard.

Interesting Case
I have ordered Book Book 12South "book covers" for my iPad previously. So I did this for my mini. What can I say? Great little cover and fashionable conversation piece. Pros are that people love to see it. Looks fantastic. Fast shipping. Classic. Cons are that it is sometimes not the most functional cover. It doesn't "prop up" well and I am not a fan of the two zipper approach. But if you want better function, you won't get the style. Overall very good cover.

Impractical but cool
It is a nice cover but the low-quality zipper is not well-designed and it is strained when the cover is opened completely. I don't expect the zipper to last long unless great care is always taken while opening the case. The instruction say not to strain the zipper, but it is impossible to open without straining it. The iPad is not easy to hold with the cover on and typing is difficult due to the awkward folding of the cover. Other than that, it is a cool, impractical cover that is a little overpriced.

Beautiful Cover
Next to my OtterBox Defender Series Case with Screen Protector and Stand for the New iPad (4th Generation), iPad 2 and 3 - Black this is the most expensive cover I have for my iPad Mini. I love leather covers and enjoy changing them often. I found this cover doing an internet search and then came to Amazon. It fits great, the leather is nice and soft and it folds back nicely for reading. The zipper wasn't any looser or tougher than the M-edge covers. I love how it looks like an old worn out book. I will be getting the other color options and the same to fit my iPad 3 too. I just wish they also had Kindle versions as well. If you are looking for a very snazzy leather cover with great protection and something to disguise your iPad mini, pick this cover up.

Cheap Quality. Cheap Quality. Cheap Quality. Cheap Quality.
Wow. Twelve South has really let quality go to the dogs. The case is about as well made at a $12 "book" case from China. Definitely NOT worth the premium price. "Leather" should be in quotations as this case does not have the premium feel as their previous versions I own. It's like night and day. Everything from the zipper, binding, front "leather" surface and leather edging has a CHEAP feel and look to it. It is obvious that Twelve South has sacrificed quality and kept pricing as it is to squeeze a higher profit margin from their customers. I had a bad experience with their Surface Pad for the iPhone 5 and the quality issues keep on coming. I'm permanently staying away from Twelve South products. I would recommend true PREMIUM products from Protenzo (portenzo.com) and Pad and Quill (padandquill.com). Products that are worth the premium price and look much more elegant. This case is getting the good old Amazon return.

Pay attention to which product is being reviewed
This is a review of the red iPad Mini case. Evidently, the brown and black ones are made with different leather. Most of the reviews about these cases are for the regular iPad case. The older regular case apparently was of better quality than the current Mini case, and seems to have been designed differently - for example, that case seems to have a hole, which the Mini case lacks, in the outside cover for the camera, and the iPad is held in the case differently. That being said... 1. Do not get the red case if you are looking for something unobtrusive. Even though it's only the spine & corners that are actually red, the thing stands out. If you plan to use this on a bus or train, where thieves snatch devices & run, you might not want them noticing what you have. At the same time, this color makes it easy to spot the case when you've set it down somewhere. 2. From a functional viewpoint - mainly involving protection - this case is overpriced. What you are paying for is in large part how cool it looks. It does look cool. But you can get the functionality from Pad and Quill, for example, for $10 less if you get the Graduate Edition, plus you get an on/off magnet closer cover. 3. The materials seem cheap for the price. In one of the other reviews, it is stated that the red case is made from goat leather, while the black & brown ones aren't - the implication being that the black & brown cases seem to be of better quality. The outer covers, back & front, seem to be covered cardboard. This means you don't want to get it wet. However, I suspect I would prefer the thinner leather of the red version over what I think is the more padded feeling leather of the other two colors. 4. The zipper cannot be zipped completely open. The last quarter inch or so, by the spine at top & bottom, cannot be handled by the zipper, so that you have to open the book to move the zipper that last distance. I don't know how this will impact the zipper over time - it might not make any difference, or it might cause the zipper teeth to begin to come apart. But right now, what it does is make it hard to zip closed, because you have to get the zipper to come out of the spine and around the first corner, then, in a second movement, send the zipper along the track to the point of closure. That being said, I like having a zipper to fully close the case. It keeps things in my jacket pocket or book bag from sliding inside. 5. The Mini slides in to a discrete section of the case (they call it the "frame") which is fully anchored with leather to the right edge of the right side of the case. This anchor is only down the right side of the frame, so that the frame actually folds out to the right. You fold it out, slide, the Mini in from the left, then fold the frame back into the case, anchoring it on the left with two snaps. Once the Mini is in the frame, you find that you have leather edging around the screen. Unfortunately, the edging on my case does not abut directly up to the edge of the screen, and does not lie exactly flat on the right hand side. So a bit of the edge of the Mini shows. And my Mini is white, so it's more obvious than it would be, were the Mini black. And I'm a little OCD, perhaps, so I find it annoying that the edging doesn't lie flat, and that it reveals more of the white on the right side than on the left side. 6. There is a flap which goes behind the Mini when it is inserted. I don't quite understand the purpose of the flap. Maybe it stabilizes the Mini. But I find it hard to insert, so I just ignore it. I only use this case when I'm out & about. At home, I take the Mini out & use the Apple cover. So I don't like fussing with the flap. It's obviously not an issue if you plan to make the case a permanent home for the Mini. But for my purposes, the flap is useless and a little annoying. 7. When I'm reading on the Mini, and holding the case like a book, I find that the zipper on the non-Mini side bothers my thumb. 8. The case comes with a cheapish black nylon drawstring bag to put it in. I can't see any real reason for this bag, myself. 9. The description for the Mini version says "For one-handed reading, fold the BookBook covers together to reveal the hand grip. You can hold iPad mini with one hand without your fingers touching the screen." Well, not on mine - there's no hand grip. It is possible to fold the cover back & hold it in one hand, but it's not comfortable, at least for me, and my hands are largish male hands. Notwithstanding the various defects or gripes mentioned above, I do like this case. Partially it is the appearance, partially it is that the zipped enclosure plus the hard cover gives me the sense that it is secure when I'm traveling about. I find that having the Mini in this case makes it easier to hold and read sitting on the bus or train than it would be with just the Apple cover. It feels more secure against the abrupt movements of the vehicle. So my bottom line is that this case is a bit of an extravagance, but if you have the money to spend on it, you might like it better than other cases. That's my own take, so I'm keeping it rather than sending it back.

LOVE! Would definitely buy from again.
As a frequent reader of both physical and digital books, I fell in love with everything about the Twelve South BookBook cases immediately, years ago! They are pricey, but WORTH it! SO GLAD I found this one on sale! I have had the BookBook for iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, the Macbook Pro laptop case, and now the iPad Mini case as well. I love their products, and can't part with them even if I'm no longer using those old iPhones anymore!! The leather does arrive already textured as shown in the listing photos. The covers of the case feel much like a hardback book, with soft suede-like fabric on the inside covers. I love that the zippers keep dust, pet hair & crumbs (or whatever) out of the case and off the iPad. I looked at a LOT of cases before purchasing this one, and none of the other brand book-style cases zipped up like this one. The zippers and zipper pulls are often stiff on arrival but soften quickly with use. The different positions the iPad can be in while in this case work perfectly with my use of the iPad. I don't take pictures with it, so I haven't actually tried that yet, except to test that the camera hole isn't blocked (it isn't). All buttons & ports are easily accessible. The ONLY DOWNSIDE I've found so far is that in landscape mode the leather comes so close to the screen that it's hard to slide up from the edge to get to the iPad's pop-up control panel. I've had the laptop BookBook case for about 3 years (used heavily, toting the case back & forth from work to school and home), and there's not a thing wrong with it. Zippers & pulls still work wonderfully, etc. I expect to have the iPad Mini case last at least as long, and stay in good condition. Would definitely recommend this case to others, as well as any other BookBook case!
