Anyone who loves history, travel, or architecture will be amazed by this great book!

I buy tons of books, and this is one of the 3 or 4 most stunningly beautiful of 2019. It is also a tour de force of knowledge about global architecture and engineering. Every region of the world, historic era, and type and style of structure is included. I have been to 45 countries in search of great architecture, yet discovered many sites I had not been aware of, as well as many of the best I have already visited. This is one of the really great books.....DK has outdone themselves, which is saying a lot!

Stunning Pics!

The book is really heavy. Well constructed. The photos are absolutely stunning. This would be a great gift, especially for a student preparing to embark on a post college life full of travel. Or give to folks who can’t travel because of Covid! Stunning pics!

Too Little Info on Too Many Items

I disagree with the publisher's tradeoff between depth and breadth.

Well-written and informative; excellent photographs. A fitting tribute to man-made structures!

This is a lovely book, both to actually read through page-by-page and to leave as a coffee table book (decoration, in other words!). But unlike some coffee table books, this one is actually interesting and informative! The book is focussed on man-made structures (buildings, bridges, etc) throughout history. Each structure is given a maximum of a double-page spread, most with one page or less, and has accompanying text explaining the building of the structure and what's special about it, along with lots of photographs and diagrams. To say "heavily illustrated" would imply, in some peoples mind, that the pictures take dominance over the text, but they balance out and the text is well written and informative. The book is divided by geographic region (mostly continent-based) and subdivided by time, for the most part, with introductory content about building techniques over the centuries. The text is interesting to read and well written, and I learned a lot. It was also interesting to go through the selected man-made structures (many of which I've seen in person over my lifetime of travel) and get some inside information I wasn't aware of. This is a fascinating book, and one most people will enjoy reading (as well as looking at the pictures)! It's a heavy book, and beautifully presented and laid out. An excellent addition to your library. Or coffee table!

Delivered damaged, but great book.

The book was delivered by Amazon with a massive tear in the reinforced and heavy duty inside seam (see pictures) Due to the damage the pages which have significant weight are now only attached to the back cover and no longer secured properly to the binding. Feels like the book is going to fall apart at any moment. Doesn't seem like damage that could occur during shipping, and I've had 7 other exact books shipped without issue. I don't know how you can't notice this and ship it as "new". Looking for some sort of credit. Thanks.
