Each cut is accurate and it works on all kinds of fabric including denim, wool, felt, and some battings. No more measuring, snipping, or cutting mistakes. No more passing up patterns because of too many little shapes to cut. Suffice to say there is no way on gods green earth my back would have stood for cutting out 100 of these squares AND cutting the fringe at the end. I am attaching a photo from that die. This machine is VERY easy to use, requires hardly any effort. It is portable, yes but it is pretty heavy in my opinion- I wouldn't be toting it all over the place without a rolling bag and would have to live on the 1st floor. It folds up flat and stores away easily when it's not in use so you aren't using up a bunch of valuable table space. We bought this as a group of quilters and we have just enjoyed the heck out of it. Accurate cuts every time. Each of us buys the dies we like, and everyone can use them. If you have quilting friends, this is the way to "Go" to cut down the cost! **Q: how long does the accuquilt stay sharp and what do you do when it gets dull?** A: Depending on the fabric, the mfg. says the dies are good for 100-200 cuts. Keep in mind, that's six layers of normal cotton fabric. After that, they have to be replaced. The Accuquilt machine itself has no sharp edges, and doesn't get dull. **Q: How long does the mat last? Also, are there any other additional parts or replacements needed as time and wear continue?** A: I would say the mats that go over the dies would last for 4 or 5 quilts. one thing you can turn them over and around so even if you are cutting out the same shape say a Apple Core or Square you will have cut marks on different places. Also you will want to have the mat more or less match you die. there is one that is 20 by 10 it think and one that 10 by 10 and one that is about 5 by 10 or something like that. One lady I know used a old rotary mat she cut up. As far as I know the rest of the machine is basically pretty wear resistant. It reminds me of an old hand crank ringer on an old washing tub. Of course I am older than dirt so others may not remember them. **Q: What size is the die that comes in this kit and what size are the cut pieces?** A: I don't remember mine coming with any dies. I just wish the dies were not so expensive! I use it for cutting earrings and embellishments. Would love to have the capital letters but that die is $249.00!!
