Our grandson is never without a hat, so this story was perfect for him.

Henry and his wild imagination will tickle your funny bone, especially if you have an imaginative preschooler!
Henry and his mother were passing by a park bench when he spotted a large, red, wide brimmed hat that someone left behind. His eyes lit up as he reached for it. His mother looked a tad concerned, but not because he was going to pick it up, but because she was probably sorry that someone lost it. He threw the hat on top of his head and a toothy grin lit up his face as he asked, "Can I keep it? Hat would be so cool!' His imagination began to go wild just thinking of all the interesting things he could do with a big, red, wide brimmed hat.He could use it to keep off the sun and rain. Naturally hats are great mouse catchers. If he was a magician and had a hat like that it would be quite something for show and tell! It could be made into a sailboat or a sled (whoosh down the hill!). He could even shove it into a crocodile's mouth before he got eaten up. He could be a . . . "But, Henry, what if someone else needs this hat?" He let the hat flop to the ground while he soberly looked at his mother. He began to think of all the things that would happen if he didn't have that hat. Why, he would be nothing but a lump inside that crocodile. Was he going to leave the hat behind on the bench?Everyone knows that the imaginations of little ones can sometimes go wild, even over finding something inconsequential like a hat. This book was really adorable and quite amusing, especially when Henry wasn't there to catch on the mice with the big red hat and the racing mice terrified grandma. The colors in the artwork are not boldly colored, but the drawings of Henry and his imaginary scenarios are very appealing. I enjoyed this little story and I think you'll enjoy it as well, especially if you have an imaginative preschooler like Henry!

Great for storytime or one on one
This book works well in story time: a simple circular plot, large, colorful illustrations with a kooky inventiveness that kids love. And the moral of the story is… the little boy can draw his own conclusion of what’s right or wrong.
