I have done some of this work before, but in very simple ways. This book encourages you to use fabrics further to those usually deployed with this work. Also, how to use the simplest of stitches to achieve an impressive effect. The text takes you from simple ideas, to advanced garments - with pattern included in the text. So many versatile ideas with a traditional method, some for beginners, others with higher skill levels. A very worthwhile purchase and an ideal book to give to someone for a gift - it would be perfect for the solution 'what to buy for the person with everything, but they do sew'...

Easy to follow instructions and lovely photos

I have never been so inspired to write a review before. The book is beautifully designed, beautifully produced and is packed with information and totally inspiring and achievable projects. I am chuffed to bits and am raring to get started!

Love Sashiko, so was looking forward to reviewing this book as another step to use Sashiko stitches to repair and enhance clothes and fabric The author, from the first page gives you a history of Boro, and she also gives you the basic techniques to achieve what you want. You learn about Tools and materials, threads and fabrics and also techniques. You are shown traditional boro stitches and some more modern boro ones. She does talk a little about sashiko. You learn how to use the book and then move on to projects. You can use scrap fabrics all sewn together to make a Tote bag, which has added strength with the boro stitches and also adds inspiration to a plain patchwork bag. There are twenty projects for you to try, including adding some boro to a greeting card. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you wish to repair clothes to last longer with a different look, as well as to recycle and repair anything you have to extend its use. Well done to the Author, Susan Briscoe, who is a renowned Sashiko expert and to David and Charles for publishing it

Livro completo para quem quer iniciar no sashiko e/ou mending (cerzido) dando um toque pessoal e único a pecas de roupa antigas. O sentido desta técnica usada pelos japoneses encaixa perfeitamente com a moda circular atual. Usei linhas de rayon porque sao mais brilhantes e o efeito final ficou lindo, valeu !

This is such a tastefully produced book with lots of beautiful indigo photos and patterns with easy to follow instructions. I love this book and it arrived do quickly too.
