Once upon a time I procured my first 4-slice toaster from an estate sale for about $5.00. It became my forever toaster, until it didn’t. When one side stopped working I yearned to replace it. A nice looking Cuisnart CPT-142P1 caught my eye, and I promptly purchased it from Amazon. You must understand that I enjoy a bagel from time to time, and prefer it toasted like the local Bagel Shop toasts them. Well the Cuisnart toasts both sides of the bagel. So why does it have a bagel button on it? I can burn the back side of my bagels in the normal toaster mode just fine. So back it went. As my original toaster was a Kenmore it was decided to stick with a proven brand, what could go wrong? So off the order went for a Kenmore toaster. It toasted bagels properly; however it took 6 minutes whereas the old Kenmore did the job in 3 minutes. Come to find out it was slow in all modes. The elements didn’t even seem to light up. It’s a good thing Amazon loves returns. Off it went. Next I ordered an Amazon Basics 4-slice toaster. I’ve run the preliminary tests, and finally I think my new forever toaster has arrived. I really like the finish of this toaster. I like the styling, it’s a little bit retro but it fits in really well with the rest of my kitchen. The black goes really well with my black stainless steel refrigerator and black appliances. It’s got buttons on it for bagels, defrosting, frozen bread and to cancel if your toast is done before it pops up. I especially like the button to cancel toasting. As sometimes I can see that it’s done before it pops up and this is a simple push of a button and up it comes. I’ve had it for a couple of hours but I’ve already toasted some bread in there, and it came out toasted very evenly. There’s a bit of a smell on the first burn, but that will go away as I use it more. The dials for how dark you want your toast have numbers and little click stops as you make the dial turn for darker or lighter, which is very cool and it lets you know exactly what setting you are on for each side. There are two slide out trays in the back of the toaster to get your crumbs out after you toast bread or bagels. I thought this toaster was reasonably priced and it sure looks great in my kitchen. I’ve just gotten it so I can’t say how long it will last, but it looks like it is made to last a good long time.

Purchased this toaster for our daughter for her first apartment. Cooks evenly and looks great. 2 or 4 slices of bread, bagels or whatever. very high quality. recommended

My family loves everything about this toaster. It’s modern looking, very clean, white with chrome accents. Really like that it has the capacity to toast four slices of bread or four cut bagel slices. The defrost option works well to thaw without toasting the bread. My favorite thing is that not only do the control knobs have a scale for the time setting, they also have a tactile clicking sound so you know kind of where you are in setting the time. Other toasters we’ve had the knobs turned very easily and could drift at times once set. The only issue we had was after about a year of use the lever ends (where you push down to lower the bread) broke off. I found a way to fix that by installing a small rivet and it’s as good as new. It hasn’t happened again. See the picture.

I was very happy with this purchase. I purchased a top rated (from Amazon) slim line toaster from Amazon less than a year ago, but it wouldn't toast on both sides simultaneously. My husband hated that. My daughter had purchased this toaster and recommended it to me. It was less expensive, and she was very happy with hers, so I ordered one. I must say, I'm glad I did. It's everything I needed in a toaster: reasonable price, 4 slices with dual controls for each two slices. Toasts on both sides simultaneously. Cancel button if you need it. Simple controls. The first thing my husband said was, "That looks nice." It's not a slim line, but it's attractive on the counter. My only complaint would be that the marks on the dials are a bit hard to read, but I can mark that with a sharpie. I'd call this a great purchase.

did not last long enough to toast bread. upon delivery I opened the box and carefully inspected this 4-slice toaster. there was no obvious damage. I plugged in the toaster and pulled down the left side toaster handle. The operation was smooth, the handle stayed in the down position, the heat began, and the cancel light came on. All as designed. Next, I pulled down the right-side toaster handle, and it would not stay down. The operation was rough, and the cancel light did not come on. I am returning the product and will receive a replacement tomorrow. I'll comment on that after use.

Does not toast the bread as evenly as any other toaster i have owned I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
