The Kids' Guide to Birds of Wisconsin: Fun Facts, Activities and 86 Cool Birds (Birding Children's Books)

I bought this for my 6-year-old son (he was 5 at the time), and he LOVES it. Hes always asking to take it with us whenever we go anywhere, to ID birds. Of course, he mostly just shows it off to the other kids at the playground instead. But at home, we sit and read about the different birds. Even my 4-year-old daughter who's behind in speech loves it. She adores choosing a color, and then selecting a bird to read about. We've learned a lot. I also have been using the Merlin Bird ID app to help find birds by their sound, and then we look it up in the book. Beautifully laid out, easy to use, even good for adults.

I purchased this to help with a beginner birding program our Bird City group was offering. It was so helpful. The youth loved it and almost every parent asked where they could get their own copy. The color organization is helpful and when the male and females are so different, they get their own pages. The photographs are very well done and we all appreciate the hints on what to look for highlighted in the photos. The information provided was spot on and the Stan's Cool Stuff was fun to share. I also respected that the book was well edited, the language was plain, but not talking down to. This would be a perfect gift for any young Wisconsin birder along with "coupons" for birding trips and a pair of binoculars!

This book is great for kid bird watchers! The pictures are beautiful and clear. The color coding is simple and intuitive for kids to use. The text is informative and encouraged learning more. We actually used our first copy a lot and lost it! So I bought another.

Lovely book for kids

Purchased this book for my grandchildren. While they can’t read yet, they actually can find the bird they are looking for in the book because it’s organized by main color of the bird. If they see something at their feeder they can’t identify, they find it and my daughter reads them the description and facts. All the basics are covered, it’s a good beginner field guide to instill a love of birds. They love learning about the birds they see and about the birds they could see in their neighborhood. I’m an avid birdwatcher and in my opinion, this is a great place to start for young birders or anyone who just wants the basics and a simple easy to follow field guide.

We purchased this book for our 12 year old son for Christmas. We are all loving the photos and information shared in the book and we are learning a lot. It has a high interest for both adults and children. My son originally saw the adult version of this book at his aunt's house and wanted it. When I searched for the book I found the kids' version which is perfect for him. I had a small issue and contacted customer service and they were great! My son did find two small errors in the book on page 150 and 214...on one page they used the term male when they should have used female and did a similar thing on the other page. But the information in the book, makes up for the erros.

This guidebook is so easy to use and has helped us identify so many birds on our adventures around the Milwaukee area. (My son is 3 and loves it already, and he’ll only get better and better at navigating the book.) I appreciate how you start with the color, then find the bird by size. This would be a great gift for a nature-loving kid!
