The hex screws didn't work right a few times thus the emergency extras needed to be used. And removing the errant screw wasn't easy since the hex head was stripped thus a small plier and time to extract. I would suggest using some wood glue for the dowel plugs, not that it's necessary but it could help keep the sections together and less gaps if any. Overall, they look great for my room and I'm sure you can repaint to your personal room preference, decorate them with stickers or even use a label printer when sorting the books out and help with returning them to their proper places. I'm thinking of getting two of them.** A: This is a major problem with this item! I have said it in the past, that I don't understand why furniture makers don't understand that most furniture items need to be symmetrical, or if they are not, then a mirror of the item need to be made available. This item only comes in one configuration, and when you buy two as I did, it doesn't really look good when you put them on opposite sides of a wall for example. They both are not symmetrical to one another and just doesn't look that good. Bottom line, NO, they are cannot be faced or assembled either way, believe me, I tried. Would have been nice. **Q: Where do I find the instruction manual? It didn't come with the bookshelves.** A: My unit also did not come with an instruction manual. **Q: All the reviews say that there are no written instructions (and therefore annoying and difficult), so how is this true: "step-by-step instructions"?** A: I had this problem on a different item made by the same company and sold by the same company, but it turned out the instructions was wedged between the foam packing and the inside wall of the packaging. Those people may have just not looked through the entire packaging. The only criticism I may have is that sometimes, sometimes, the little round number and alphabet tags they place on items fall off and it may maybe be hard to follow the instructions (but not really). It is highly unlikely the items come without instructions. **Q: Would an average sized printer fit on these shelves?** A: I would say "No" because of the shallow depth.
