Best Men's Omega-3 for Heart Health
I am not affiliated with Nordic Naturals and I haven't been compensated in any way for this review. Before I begin, let me touch upon why this product is not best for women. Skip this paragraph if you are not interested. While I strongly endorse this product for men as probably the best Omega-3 heart supplement, I would not recommend this product to DHA-seeking women (or even men) since this Omega-3 product has the DHA/EPA ratios reversed and provides nowhere near enough the DHA needed by pregnant and nursing women along with those who suffer from DHA deficiency based depression (one of the main causes for depression in women and men who do not eat fish at least 2 times a week). For those seeking DHA, like pregnant and nursing women, I would recommend what my wife uses all the way from conception through to completion of nursing: NutraSea DHA by Ascenta, which is a squid based DHA supplement that is cleaner and better tasting than most fish oil prenatal DHA supplements (my wife says it tastes good too). Now back to the ProEPA Xtra 1000 review. This is probably the best EPA supplement out there - not just the most expensive. With this product, you truly get what you pay for. While it costs more than most other EPA products on the market, the EPA mg per dollar ratio is actually among the best making it essentially the cheapest if you can actually realize what you are paying for is the EPA if you are seeking heart benefits. EPA has been the subject of numerous clinically administered double-blind placebo controlled studies proving it's ability to both lessen the incidence of heart attacks, the severity of heart attacks, and mortality following a heart attack. According to a Harvard psychopharmacologist whose book I recently read: the key is getting enough EPA for those seeking heart benefits. The same with DHA for those seeking psychological benefits (and since babies steal all of the woman's DHA, she falls into this camp as any husband whose been through all 9 months knows). Dr. Andrew Stoll (director of psychopharmacology research at Harvard's Maclean Hospital) said the antidepressant power of DHA rivaled that of Lithium but without the devastating side effects in his book The Omega-3 Connection. Great book for those interested in heart health, mental health, and natural health. With the tiny amounts of EPA in most Omega-3 "Heart Supplements" (often well under 100mg), one would have to consume the half a bottle per day of the product to get the amount of DHA and EPA used in Dr. Stoll's studies (usually several grams daily for severe cases). Even with the incredible amounts of EPA in this product, I still take 2 daily which is still far cheaper and easier than eating wild salmon every day. Another great thing about this product is the presence of adequate amounts of vitamin E to prevent the oils from oxidizing as is common in many low quality fish oils and leads to more harm than good. My only complaints, which for me are not significant enough to effect my 5 star rating is: 1) that the vitamin E is almost surely from soy (over 90% of which is genetically modified and linked to sterility in lab animals) and; 2) that the capsules are gelatin based and not veggie caps due to the risk of BSE in beef derived gelatin (the rest of the gelatin is pork-based). Even with veggie caps, some contain SLS even then caution is warranted. Hope this review was helpful. Overall, a great product that I would strongly recommend to all men looking for huge amounts of EPA (unless you have a soy or fish allergy!).

Wonderful product but something up lately with Amazon's supply
I've been using this product for many years. Helps my arthritis inflammation a lot. And MD is convinced it keeps my calcium score at 0. But the last two bottles I've purchased have had a leaky capsule in them. The product stuck together and the fishy, oily smell and taste were awful. The first time this happened, I thought it was an one time odd occurrence - damaged in shipment or something. So I purchased another and it was the same thing. This is a GREAT product. I will continue to buy it. And while I love the convenience of shopping on Amazon, I may need to buy this product directly from the manufacturer.

Nordic Naturals produces some of the best EPA products on the market!
I always bite into my capsule to test the freshness and to aid in absorption and digestion (always take it with a meal that contains some fat to ensure better absorption). The flavor is always fresh and wholesome. Believe me, I've tasted some very bad products (read 'rancid') in my time. I love all of Nordic Naturals' product but this one is exceptional!

Horrible! Everything tastes and smells like rotten fish!
I’m no stranger to taking fish oil supplements and usually take a prescription version or otc krill oil. Based on reviews, I had believed that this would make a good substitute for my prescription version, when my prescription ran out but there is no way I could stomach the strong, repulsive taste or tolerate the smell that wafts off of this product. My pill container smells like death, my hands, my mouth all smell like rotten fish, and then the burps began. The gift that keeps on giving. 2 thumbs down. This is going straight to the trash. It doesn’t matter how effective a product is you can’t stomach it or even be in the same room with it. Citrus? What citrus! Tastes great? Maybe to a desperate otter, lol.

EPA recommended by my sports physician
I fell victim to a quack masseuse / chiropractor who messed up my shoulder. I was recommended this product by my sport's physician and have been taking 2 daily for 3 months now. I used to take Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen for minor pain, and now take 4 of these instead. I would say, give it a try for an extended period of time and see if you get the same beneficial results I did.

Sticky glob
My last two orders of this product came with broken capsules leaving the contents in one sticky ball with very bad flavor. Normally the flavor is citrusy but now it tastes horrible and leaves my hands smelling awful. I wish I knew what is causing this problem (manufacturer or distributor). Either way may change to another EPA fish oil.
