Not for oilfield use.
Quality must have changed for the worse. I have purchased a few of these over the last 10 years or so. The first couple lasted 2-3 years. Other DDs had borrowed mine and bought their own as well, so these have circulated through our field for a while now. But now, with the same use, we are lucky if they last three months. The tape feels thinner and folds easily. The tape has a difficult time retracting and progressively gets worse after the first couple of uses. Until you have to push the last few feet in. The print also wears quicker, it seems to have less coating than it used to. Which this may be contributing to retraction issues, along with a cheaper coil. This is a collective review from our field, as we have all received multiple tapes that have the same issues, over these last couple of years. I am walking around with a foot or two of tape that won’t retract, sticking out of my bag. That being said, if you are going to use it inside a vacuum chamber, measuring pillow top mattresses, it’s probably okay for that. There aren’t too many 40’ engineer tapes to choose from, but I’ll be trying the Milwaukee 35’ engineer tape. My business is leaving this business, until I hear that they have returned to the prior quality we all appreciated.

Good for directional drillers and fishing tool hands
Good strapping tape for the oilfield. Long enough for most tubulars you will encounter. It great for a directional driller. Strong recoil. If you keep it somewhat clean it'll last a couple years. 2nd one I've had.

Endless Length
Massive tape measure with rugged shell, diversity of scale (imperial / metric) on front / back of tape, and quick recoil. Will need your suspenders once this is strapped to your belt. No more taking measurements in increments... this tape is big enough to measure the length needed in a single stretch.

Fantastic
As a directional driller for over 15+ years now I have wanted a tape measure that is 40’ long. We measure BHA components and nothing normally is longer than 40’ so this one is fantastic for what I need it for.

Poor quality Spring mechanism
It looks good and feels good in your hand unfortunately it doesn’t hold up in the field. After strapping a few motors and tools it is having difficulty winding back up often having to feed it in by hand. No dirt, mud, dope has gotten inside the reel and haven’t extended the tape to the end of the reel to cause this. It’s easy to read but for the price it should be more durable than this.

I bought this tape measure twice and twice I was sent just one tape measure instead of two as it is advertised.
