Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born: A Heartwarming Adoption Story About Family Love for Children (Ages 4-8) Review: READ TO ME WHEN I WAS ADOPTED - My parents read this story to me when I was a kid because I was adopted, and I love it! Cute humor for adults and children. The pictures always kept me interested and excited to always want them to read it to me. I was adopted from China and even though it was “super spot on” with every detail of our adoption story, I would say as an adopted kiddo this still was a very FUN HELPFUL book on adoption and me feeling like I was special. So don’t over look that too much I would say :) now I have purchased it for my kiddos and I will probably give this to my brother and sister in law as a gift as they are in the process of adopting! Review: A wonderful book - We adopted our daughter 24 years ago from Russia when she was a year old. Our story was not the same as the one in the book, but my daughter loved the book anyway. A year ago my son and daughter in law adopted a newborn, and I was thrilled to discover that this book is still in print. My little granddaughter is about to get it delivered from Santa! And I know she will love it

One of the Best Books on Adoption
This is one of several children's books written by the actress Jamie Lee Curtis, and I think it is the one you should start with. It is tender, loving, and funny. Nearly everyone should be able to relate to either the parent or the child in the story. Fortunately, we discovered the audio version first. The Jamie Lee Curtis CD Audio Collection: Is There Really a Human Race?, When I Was Little, Tell Me About the Night I Was Born, Today I Feel Silly, Where ... Go?, I'm Gonna Like Me, It's Hard to Be Five The CD is a wonderful collection READ BY THE AUTHOR! You really get to meet another side of Jamie Lee, the mother side. It turns out that she is not only a very talented scary movie actress, but she can also channel the child in herself with her writing!

Little diversity
Cute illustrations and the sentiment is good. Information about the book incase someone is searching for specific details: the characters are white, reference an adoptive mom and dad, and an adoptive mom who couldn’t not carry a child in her tummy.

An Amazing story for children of all ages!
I gave this book to my daughter 20 years ago. At first she didn't understand it she just liked it. Once she understood the significance of the story, she fell in love with it. I adopted her 23 years ago. I always wondered how I would tell her "Her" story. This book made it special and made her feel special. She later shared it with her classmates. I believe the early introduction to the story and the later understanding of it made her feel secure in who she was and how she came to be. Two thumbs up for author Jamie Lee Curtis and 5 Stars for Amazon and the books' seller for delivering in a timely manner a beautiful copy of this story. (Over the years I lost the original copy so I wanted to get another to place in my daughters' Hope Chest - yes there are some young ladies who still have Hope Chests...what is life without Hope or Dreams?

Cute and funny book on adoption!
This book is so cleverly written. The illustrations are great and I love finding all of the cute "extras" in the background on bottles, books, etc. It's a very sweet book describing the adoption process of this child. My husband and I recently adopted a newborn and we are going to use this book and others to read to him to tell him about how he came into our family- and to show how incredibly special he is! I read some reviews saying that this story is too type specific or not like their adoption story. I think that's what is fun about this book. You can compare similarities and differences between your story and the book. I let my nieces read this book before our son was born and they really enjoyed it. They are 6 and 11 years old. This helped them understand more of the adoption process as well and they laughed a lot throughout the book. Take the book for what it's worth- a sweet and funny story about a child being adopted...you'll probably never find a story that is exactly like your adoption story because no two adoptions are exactly alike. It's all-in-all a great read. It's a very cute and lighthearted book sure to make you laugh and cry.

Great book for domestic adoption
I ordered many adoption books online after our daughter was born. She is only 4 months old, but wanted to be sure that adoption wasn't ever a new concept for her. This book describes the journey of domestic adoption to a child very well, almost eerily close to my daughter's adoption story. It is funny, touching, and the illustrations have incredible detail. And beware if you are at all emotional about the adoption journey. I have still not made it all the way through without crying (happy tears!). It isn't meant to do that, but those of you who have been through adoption will likely understand!

For domestic adoptees only
I rated three stars because although the book is well written and illustrated it has a very narrow focus. I bought this looking for books to begin to introduce adoption to my 3 1/2 year old - adopted from Ethiopia at 8 months. It was recommended for adopted kids. Well it is a good book but really not at all appropriate for international adoptees - who are often adopted older and MUCH of the story is not at all like their story. The story is very specific to the domestic adopt at/near birth scenario. So for those parents it is a real winner - but not for us. A more general book like The Day We Met You by Phoebe Koehler is appropriate for domestic or international kids adopted as infants but not necessarily at birth.

This book and a series of books and activities are what I used to tell my daughter that she was adopted. The trick is to start very early. From the time my daughter was very young - less than a year of I spoke about her about "her as a gift". Then when she was about 4 or so I looked for a book. this was one of the books I used to trigger the conversation. I used some other books too. I also created a video with pictures to show how we were searching, how we got a call and how she gave us one look and we were hooked etc. On Maximum Childhood, a parent network focused on teaching children, I created a learning journey for the entire exercise. link: [...]
