This helps keep the attached collar in place. Game changer in walking.
This is the second dog that I trained with the Cesar collar. Old vs. New style: I have used both. I did like the old style because it was easy to put on. I snapped it on. This one slides over his head and has to be adjusted. This is NOT an issue. I like how this is made better. It slides over his head easy. It stays in place. There is a separate collar at the top that is what controls the dog. The neck part is ONLY to hold the collar in place. It is the only purpose of the neck part. Size: The dog I am using this on now is a Doberman/Pitbull mix 6 month old pup. He has a little Australian Shepherd and a little Great Pyrenes in him. He is close to 50 pounds now. I went with the medium. I need to adjust it to make it the smallest. It is still a little too big but it works EXTREMELY well. My experiences with the Cesar Collar: My first dog, Jasper was a high energy Pitbull/lab. He was a puller. He didn't respond to dog treats while walking. Not even high value treats. Through different training classes and watching Cesar, I learned the collar was supposed to be high on the neck. I could never keep it that high all of the time. Finally, we broke down and bought the Cesar collar. This was the OLD style of Cesar collar. My dog became an excellent walker. For me, The Cesar collar was only TEMPORARY. Once I applied what I learned in classes and learned from watching Cesar, I was able to remove the collar. Once he learned to walk and I removed the collar, he walked BEAUTIFULLY. People were constantly commenting how well he walked. The original collar was a GAME CHANGER for Jasper. Move on to our 6 month old pup, Alfie. Alfie can be an excellent walker when he wants to be. Most of the time he is. He can also try to lead. If I snap his collar he becomes stressed. This builds into tension until he is doing zoomies in the middle of our walk. The weird thing about this Alfie is he LOVES to walk what I called "Free Leash walking". I put him on a long leash. I hold the leash in my right hand. he walks beautifully through the neighborhood. He doesn't realize that I have him on a leash. Treats do help a lot. He stays at my side the whole time. If I pick up the leash close to his collar, he starts to lead and pull slightly. I drop the leash and he falls right back in place. I was hoping to train him to walk on a leash by using this method. It didn't work. I tried a harness. Personally, I felt like I was managing him and my pup was the pack leader. I never can see him walking without the harness one day. To me, a harness is a lifetime commitment. I know if I train him to walk properly, I will rarely snap his leash or collar. It is getting him to that point though. I needed help keeping the collar in place. I started considering the Cesar collar. What concerns me with Alfie is his unpredictability. He most often walks beautiful. He can pull light but will fall into place when I stop. About once a week, he can become very difficult and do zoomies, buck like a horse and try to jump all over me. If I bring his collar up high, he doesn't like that much either and I can get the same response. He is getting stronger. I need to take care of the issue. A couple weeks ago, enough was enough, I was tired of the unpredictability. I bought the Cesar collar. It sat in my basement for 2 weeks. I didn't need it. I didn't think it would work. I was also reading so so reviews on the new style of the collar. Finally, after more than one unpredictable episode in one week, I pulled the Cesar collar out and put it on him. It was an instant game changer. I am now pack leader. Whereas when the collar is at the base of his neck, he didn't pay much attention to a snap. Now he can feel the collar with a light snap. Now, he is walking by my side. A small snap and he knows he has to straighten out. I have only been using it a few days now. I am finding great success in training my second dog with it. Our walks are becoming more peaceful. 5 stars: I can't recommend this enough. I work hard training my dogs. Alfie does magic shows, he bows and plays cornhole. The walking though is a different story. We both want to walk but each of us want to walk our own way. It was a power struggle between the two of us. The Cesar collar helps keep the collar in place; therefore, making me the pack leader. Love it.

It's a good collar but it could be better. It has an easily fixable design flaw in my opinion.
I actually an enjoying the collar very much. How ever I'd have to rate it a low but solid 7 out of 10 because the clips that fasten the collar shut are just that they are clips not buckles. So if you aren't careful the dog could scratch their neck with their back leg and knock open one or two (theres 4 total) of the clips. Although this seems like a designer flaw to me its much more secure and safer, I feel, then a choke chain. The positioning of the slip lead does help but getting the proper size will be crucial for proper effectiveness. This I understand is a training collar so you wont want your dog to wear it all the time except maybe at first just to get used to it but other then that it's a training tool and pretty good one as long as to use it properly and pay attention. And yes you still have to train your dog this isn't a quick ticket fix my dog in 30 seconds type deal. It's a tool and it's one that you should use wisely and appropriately. But I like it despite the apparent designer flaws and high price but I'm assuming it's a higher price too because of whose name is on it.

instant results
We have a 3 year old Rottweiler, and have tries all kinds of collars and harnesses. The dog is very strong and it has been a struggle walking her especially if she sees a squirrel or a cat. Put this collar on her and she pulled a couple times and instantly stopped. Now when I put the collar on her she doesn't even try it. Super easy to make corrections with a quick gentle tug if she loses focus. Would highly recommend for anyone having issues with dogs pulling or losing focus. For reviews complaining about the weak harness clamps, I could see them being an issue if you were using the double collar as a harness (connecting a lease directly to the back connection) if you use the slip leash as designed the only pressure on the collar is keeping the slip lease high on the dogs neck to easily control the head, there's really not a lot of stress on the double collar straps.

Not a good design.
This is a poor design to start out with. The idea of the collar is to keep a slip lead high up on the dog's neck, were it is most effective in stopping pulling. It does that. The problem is that the underneath piece that supports that high placement sticks into the dog's neck at the base of their head, and is very uncomfortable to the dog. It actually causes more behavioral issues than it solves. Add to that that the plastic hardware is cheaply made, and not durable, and I have to give a thumbs down to this made-in-China product.

I had to connect the collar to another on his neck so when it opened, he couldn't run away.
Besides the delayed delivery, when I put the collar on my dogs neck the plastic clips that held it closed popped open. I only used it twice since I'm worried about my GSD running away once the collar popped open.

Definitely makes an improvement in dog walking
I recently purchased this because I have a strong pitbull breed dog with several things that trigger her outside to pull and cause me to have less control on the leash. At first I wasn't using it correctly however I still saw alot of improvement and it increased my confidence. Last night I realized that the collar needs to be on tight, this is to ensure the top lead below the head doesn't end up slipping to the middle of neck when she starts to pull. I had to make sure all four straps fitted around the neck tightly. I agree with one of the comments about the buckles coming undone. That's the only thing I don't like about the collar. However if used correctly, you will see improvement and It's worth the money. The collar is only one of the steps in order to have control. You need the confidence and you need to know what triggers your dogs so you can correct them before they go off. And then just as if your leading a horse, you can not look at the dog while walking.

Was great but didn't work like I thought it would or on the show. Maybe not quite doing it right.
