If you prefer a mattress that's not "firm"...
For years we had been sleeping on an old inner spring mattress with an inexpensive 4" foam topper. It was VERY SOFT, so much so that getting out of bed was sometimes an issue. Plus I often woke up with shoulder or neck pain. FYI, I'm a side sleeper. And lately, my sleeping's just been lousy. I expect Covid-related anxiety is party to blame. Regardless I decided I wanted a new mattress. I decided on a bed in a box. I got one for both of my kids over the years and they seemed happy. Plus, there are very well reviewed products out there for way less than traditional beds. Lastly, return policies often seemed too good to be true (see more on this below). After spend days reading hundreds of reviews and watching videos, I opted for a Tuft & Needle Mint. It cost about $1K. Easy ordering, arrived promptly, set up easily, and looked great. It was rated "firm." Well, my wife HATED it. Truth be told, she didn't give it a fair try. She kind of said she wouldn't like it before it arrived, said she didn't like it after night 1, and after night 2 said she was up all night with back pain. FWIW, this mattress should have relieved her back pain, not added to it, based on firmness and the fact that she's a back sleeper. Didn't matter. Her mind was made up. It had to go. So I called T&N on day three and they were FANTASTIC. Refunded my purchase price IMMEDIATELY and said I should give it to a local charity or, failing that, give it to a friend, family member, or neighbor in need. The return policy that I thought "too good to be true" turned out to be 100% true. Good on them! I gave it to a family in a neighboring town that lost all of their possessions to a house fire. I ordered the 2.0 via Amazon because it was the more "plush" of the options and because of the literally thousands of positive reviews. Oh, the fact that the price was less than half of the T&N didn't hurt. It arrived in about 8-9 days (my only complaint). Very large box that I once again had to navigate to the second floor. Popped it open and enjoyed watching the inflating process (again). After figuring out which side was front and back we placed it in place and let it "breath" for a couple of hours. With chemical smell to keep me off it, I put a cover and sheet on it and slept on it last night. It's definitely on the plush side. I wouldn't want it any softer. But I actually found it more comfy than the 2x more expensive mattress that preceded it. "They" say soft is good for side and stomach sleepers (which I am) and they appeared correct. I only had one night on it but I'm sure it'll be fine for me. My wife joins me on it tonight and we'll have to see her reaction. Should she not like it I'll just get her a 2" topper for her side to make it softer. You can't see the actual mattress so I can't comment on its looks or fit and finish. The cover isn't at taught as the T&N's cover and the materials not as rich feeling, but it doesn't feel cheap. As a bonus, it come with two "bonus" memory foam pillows and though it did smell a little when I woke up my head was on one of them and not one of my "old" pillows. I can't speak to its return policy and hope I don't have to. But I am comfortable saying (pun intended) that this is a nice, inexpensive option for someone who likes a softer mattress.

A Man's review of this thing.
To clear up a lot of confusion with this mattress, here is an Honest to God review.... Summary: - Mattress was easy to assemble (cut package and roll/air out) - Smell was not that bad... It's expected, so have a fan ready and air it out. - Firm version of memory foam (Perfect for bigger guys like me) But I have a hunch it breaks in over time. - Quality seemed very nice. I just received this mattress yesterday ( 8/5/2015 ). The packaging was as expected, the Cardboard box was in rough shape but the heavy duty plastic on the inside was untouched. I'm a 6'2" 230lb athletic man that spends most of my free time in the gym, so getting the package onto my bed frame by myself was no problem at all. To a regular or smaller person, you might need an extra hand carrying the 90+lb package. Upon opening, I cut the plastic and everything went as expected. The mattress inflated itself within 30 minutes with the corners lagging behind (I just hit the corners with my hand to fluff them up and help them catch up) . I let it sit for 24 hours before laying on it. The smell is strong, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Looking at the other reviews, some of these people must have had a bad mattress, or simply can't take a little odor for a few days (they might be sensitive). Here's the biggest point... The mattress is a very firm version of memory foam. Right out of the box the mattress doesn't give in as much as you may think. It's perfect for someone like me because, like I've said, I'm 230 lbs and athletic. This thing offers the perfect support for me, giving in to my heavy points and supporting my lighter areas yet I can see somebody who's much lighter having issues. I say to those people, give the mattress time to break in. I'll update this in a few months with a follow up. Tonight will be the first night I sleep on it, and I couldn't be more excited. The 10 minutes I spend laying on it this morning almost made me fall right asleep again. I'll keep this post updated because there seems to be a lot of confusion on this mattress. * Off topic * The first one I ordered got mixed up in the mail due to the carrier, therefor I got my mattress 3 days late. Amazon's customer service was perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better crew to solve the problem. ** UPDATE (08/07/2015) ** - Last night was the first night that I slept on the mattress and I can honestly say I had a great night sleep. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night at all. I was cool all night (Granted I had a 17" box fan blowing directly over me) and the only time I got hot was when my lady friend came over earlier. I'm usually a very hot sleeper and people who complain about the heat of this thing should invest in a fan. Even without the fan it was very cool at first, but it did start warming up slightly after 30 minutes or so of laying in the same spot - but it wasn't that bad. I can say that I'm very pleased with my first night on this thing. *** UPDATE 08/24/2015 Sleeping on this thing has been a pleasure. It's not revolutionizing, but it's much more comfortable than my last mattress. The smell is pretty much gone although it did take awhile. The smell was honestly not that bad and the only way you could really smell it was if you stuck your nose in the mattress. I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore from tossing and turning. That's a huge plus for me because on my old mattress It felt like I had a cycle of waking up at 3 or 4am from tossing and turning. The mattress is still very firm, but like I said before, it's perfect for me because I'm big and heavy enough to actually sink in a bit.

Mattress good, pillows suck
Love the mattress, it is super comfortable. Woke up with no back pain, no weird smells when I unboxed it, I let it sit for about 14 hours before I slept on it and it has been awesome. The only reason for 4 stars is because I HATE the pillows. They are super thick, way too thick and caused me to have neck pain.

Better than I thought it would be
I considered returning this, then I gave it a full night on it after letting it sit out for more than 24 hours. It’s a great mattress. Very very comfortable. Excellent price. In the future I will buy again. I can’t speak on the cooling part, I did not notice a difference but I did not feel too warm either. I do hope it continues that way. I am happy with my bed now. I want to add that I am a single woman and was able to move this bed from where it was delivered 4 doors down (the fault of Fed Ex) and was able to get it opened and onto my bed alone. Moving it outside was difficult but once I had it open in my apartment, it was pretty easy.

I really love this bed!
One thing I am always suspicious of on Amazon are 5 star reviews. I usually gloss over them to see what people are really experiencing. If you look at bed reviews across the board on Amazon, you see about 70+% love the bed, and 15% or so had negative experiences. Take that for what it's worth. Now for the bed. I was really prepared to not like this bed as I haven't had a foam bed since the 70's. There were lot's of negative reviews for this bed, and I chalk it up to not everybody being pleased with it. Back to those percentages again. I'm a Vietnam veteran, and I am in pain much of the time. Beds I've had have not helped me much with the pain. Hips, back, even elbows. Pain keeps me awake many nights, and I have to take meds for pain, and to help me sleep. I am 350 lbs, and have lot's of joint problems, I had some friends come over to help me manhandle the heavy and cumbersome package. We opened the seal up on the vacuum seal, we were all were surprised and amazed by the bed almost inflating itself instantly. There was a sound like air whooshing into it! After reading many reviews of the bed taking many hours to right itself into the right size, I attributed it to every bed responding differently to locations and altitudes in transport and storage. There was one review here that I saw where a gentleman said that of it's nature, foam takes awhile when sleeping on it to go through several changes in firmness or support. I found this to be absolutely true. It has taken a few weeks of sleeping on it to find it's become unbelievably comfortable to me. I sleep on the left side of the bed, and as I would sleep a little more to the center, I found the center to be much more firm, uneven really... But, when I decided to put this theory to the test, I started to sleep in the middle, and yes, the foam feel became consistent with my usual sleep area. Now the middle sleeps like the left side, It really is very plush... to a certain level in the depth of the mattress, then it firms up about 3 inches down. I find it to be very soft to sleep in, while at the same time being firm enough to support me very well. I've slept all over the mattress now, and the bed feels consistent throughout. Also, this bed sleeps cool. I find the bed does not add or amplify heat at that 3" deep level I had mentioned. So the gelfoam is very cool. I've been sleeping well for the first time in years. I had spent well over 2 thousand on a support individual coil spring mattress, and hated it after a few months. With my weight, the coil bed springs just gave out. I would sink into it. Now for the truly unbelievable part. I have been getting great sleep for the first time in 10 years. I have actually cut down on my sleep meds, because I'm not fighting with pain that a bed usually adds to my pain level. And I am actually sleeping very well. My body feels very well rested, and for the first time in years, I'm not having as much back pain, awake or asleep. I haven't actually wanted to just lay there in my bed when I wake up for a long time, but do now cause I just want to enjoy the comfort a bit longer. I know, many of you have read front loaded 5 star reviews with the same cliche's before, like "sleeping on a cloud". Well, for me at least, it feels like sleeping on a cloud. If your considering buying this, remember, you could be in that 15 to 20% that it doesn't work for you, just like every other bed here. But for me, this one is a gem.

Severely Disappointing and Hard to Return
To start off, I think this is like the second review I have ever left on Amazon. I don't usually leave reviews, but this mattress was so incredibly disappointing that I thought I should share to help people out. First off, I decided to by this mattress because a friend of mine bought from this brand three years ago, and it was the most comfortable and cooling mattress I have ever slept on, which is why I decided to purchase it for myself after moving. I let the mattress completely inflate on a flat surface for 72 hours to ensure it was fully inflated. Straight out of the plastic, I noticed that the two bottom corners were already inflating slower than the rest, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt since it was fresh out of the package. After 72 hours, the bottom corners were still sagging and it never fully inflated to the promised 10in, but I decided it was no big deal and not worth the hassle of trying to request a refund. Cooling: My body temperature naturally runs hot, so the most attractive feature about this mattress was the cooling gel. The first couple of days sleeping on it, the mattress itself was comfortable, but I kept waking up throughout the night drenched in sweat. At first, I thought it was the AC system in my new place and played around with it. I also use cooling sheets and even removed the mattress protector from underneath it to see if there were too many layers blocking the cooling gel effect. Eventually, I tried sleeping with the blanket half on as well as without the blanket completely and have concluded that it's just the mattress. It retains so much heat that I could probably sleep outside in the dead of winter and still sweat. Even after leaving the bed for an hour or so, it is still warm to the touch when I come back to it. Medium-Firm: I am a big fan of medium to firm mattresses, and my previous mattress-in-a-box was medium firm. This mattress was comfortable the first week, since it was firm enough to support my back but still soft enough to let my shoulder slightly sink in when I am sleeping on my side. After the first week, the mattress seemed to have gotten firmer with no sinking whatsoever, and I started waking up sore. I have had this mattress for almost 2 months now, and it feels like sleeping on a heated brick. Again, I have had this mattress for nearly 2 months now, and I have not had a single night of uninterrupted sleep because of this mattress. I wake up an average of 3-4 times a night, sore and sweating, which is very out of the norm for me as I am a healthy 23 year old, 5'3 and 125lbs. Maybe I'm not heavy enough to make the foam sink in or something, but I decided to go forward with returning this mattress. Return Process: This has been the most frustrating return process by far. I requested a pick-up return, which Amazon scheduled through UPS, and I was told to call UPS to verify a pick-up time. I requested a pick up time anytime after 5PM since I work on weekdays, and those are the only days UPS offers pick-up. UPS verified with me that they would pick-up anytime between 6pm-8pm and that they would come up the elevator to my apartment door to retrieve the mattress. However, when pick-up time came, UPS showed up at 4:30 while I was at work, left a label, and told me I had to drop it off at a UPS location. When I took it to the UPS location, they told me they would not take it, because the mattress was not vacuum sealed in the plastic anymore and that the driver would not accept it on their truck if UPS took the return. UPS told me to take it to the Amazon Hub 30minutes away, but when I drove out there, the doors were locked and there was no contact number online or on site. I contacted Amazon again this morning, and they told me they would reissue a UPS door pick-up, which I verified with them that they would come to my door and pick it up after 5PM. They told me to call UPS to verify the time, which I will do after work today. I hope the pick-up works out or else I'll be stuck with a random mattress and no refund. There is also no way to contact the seller, only Amazon customer service, and you would think the return process would be easier if they are requesting for the mattress to be sent back. tl;dr: 1. Every inch matters, except when it comes to this brand, because it doesn't fully inflate and the corners are droopy. 2. The cooling effect of this mattress feels like layering on every piece of winter clothing in your closet on a 105 degree day and rolling around in a sauna then jumping into a volcano. 3. The medium-firmness of this mattress equates to a brick, freshly baked out of the clay oven. 4. You might as well load the mattress into your car and drive it back to the manufacturer yourself with how difficult it is to get someone to pick up the mattress.
