The NESCO FD-79 Food and Jerky Dehydrator provides the drying power that generates maximum speed and quality for dehydrating your favorite foods. The digital timer is programmable for up to 24 hours of drying time and includes an auto off function. This dehydrator comes with four (13 1/2" diameter) trays and expands up to 12 trays so you can dry large quantities at once, with no tray rotation needed. Additional Add-A-Trays sold separately. The quiet, powerful Converga-Flow fan forces heated air down the exterior pressurized chamber, then horizontally across each individual tray. The air flow then converges in the center for quick, consistent drying that is four times faster than other dehydrators. The top mounted fan eliminates liquids dripping into the heater chamber. **Q: Is this compatible with the trays from the fd-60 model?**
A: Yes it is.

**Q: how loud is the fan?**
A: In my opinion it is not loud. I have it on the porch just outside the door and can not hear it with door closed.

**Q: Has anyone used this to dehydrate ground beef? Did it turn out well?**
A: I had no issues but you do need to use low fat ground beef. I believe I used the 90/10 ratio of beef to fat.  I used this for a deyhdrated backpacking meal and had no problems on the trail with it.

**Q: Is this compatible with the trays from the fd-75pr model?**
A: I used my father-in-law’s older trays with my new machine
