Well-thought coding set for kids
Matatalab Coding Robot Set for Kids As a parent in the age of gaming apps, the thought of pushing my child toward learning how to code ran through my mind, but I did not want him to be forced into liking it. This toy is the solution! The control tower and the little robot car come with two double-sided theme maps, two storybooks, one gamebook, two sets of paper crafts, and stickers. Basically, your child has to be the control tower and create commands using the little buttons provided to move the little robot car. It's delightful how each command button can make the car move in different directions. Once the child understands the logic, he can take on the challenges in the gamebook. And even after completing them, he won't get bored because he can use his imagination and create stories out of crafts, and he can even use his legos to have a ride in the car. What I like best is that you can play with it without going through an app. And, even without buying the add-ons available, your child can enhance their imagination and create their own stories and maps using 10cm by 10cm, which I noticed is the fixed range for every movement. But the sensor add-on looks very exciting as it allows for sound, color, distance, and light senses. After 4-6 hours of playing, when it's time to recharge, you only need to charge it via the USB-C port - so convenient! The tower was fully charged after 4 hours and the car robot after 2. With initial guidance and enough enthusiasm from both parent and child, this game will bring hours of fun in learning much sought-after skills. I very much recommend this product.

Excellent
I wasn't exactly sure what this product does when I requested to review. From the images I thought it looked interesting, unique and I have a friend who has young children. My children took part in STEM clubs while at school and found them challenging and great fun. The box is well designed to be attractive without being too educational and really grabbed the attention of my friends children. However, when opened both children aged 5 and 7 got a bit frustrated because it does require things to be laid out but then that happens with a lot of toys. They both loved connecting the robots and thinking about planning the route, it was great to hear the discussions between them about how to do it, a great experience. After a little while the 5 year old lost interest but the 7 year old thoroughly loved the challenge and you can see he has a massive sense of achievement. In fact he hasn't stopped talking about it and schools friends have been over to give it a go. The look of the product and design is aimed at 4+ as described on the box, the colours, shapes and the way the leaflet is laid out so I honestly believe this is fine for 4 years on wards, I think my friends 5 year old walked away from it because there is only so much you do with your brother without him possibly taking over. This is a great product to give to a young child and spending time with them working out how do or just sitting back and watching them figuring it all out. It is quite expensive at the time of review £129 but then its a great STEM toy full of fun and learning.

Great for young STEM learner
Coding is a big topic included in STEM learning in recent years and it is good for kids to start learning the concept of coding when they are young. This coding robot set is suitable for young children. It is easy to understand, and stimulate thinking, problem solving skills. I love the way that this robot coding set does not require the iPad or additional computing device. It contains everything it needs in the box, so there is no need to installing or downloading of apps. What is great is that the instruction is based on graphical symbols rather than words, for children at young age, special needs or learning difficulties, using graphical symbols can encourage their learning. It takes time to figure out what to do, and with trial and errors, children can figure out themselves, great training on problem solving skills. I enjoyed doing it with them and it was only at the beginning we tried to figure out what to do together, they were confident enough to tackle the rest. The set isn't cheap, but it is definitely very educational and good quality. There are different challenge booklets to work on. We will be setting out a lego scene and incorporate it with the coding robot in the summer holiday.

A good, simple, introduction to coding
I’m not going to lie, it took me a while to get my head around the different tiles and functions but once mastered it’s a good concept. Simply put, you can code the little robot to get from a to b using different tiles. My daughter (6) picked it up quickly and has enjoyed working her way through the different books (there are three difficulty stages). We have tried coding sets before that required apps and iPads so it was nice to have this one which didn’t require any of that! The tower needed charging before use then we were away. A simple concept that my daughter has enjoyed but not one that I can see her getting out often as she does get bored. Overall, a good introduction for younger children - would recommend.

Very niche
This is aimed at 4+ - good luck with this if you don't have a very academically able child - this is for the brightest of the bright and I don't count myself, nor my offspring, in that grouping. It is well packaged - apple'esque even, but once the packaging is opened it is extremely daunting. A month after I got this for review it still baffles me and I had to force myself to use it, which doesn't bode well for any kind of review. The Matatalab Coding Robot set claims that it develops cognitive ability and coding skills through hands-on play - this may be true but only for specific groups. I want my kids to have fun learning and making sense of the world and for me this is probably not the way to go - personally, I would seek out a Fisher Price Code-a-pillar or if you have an iPad, then look no further than the OSMO Coding Starter Kit. Very niche and expensive to boot!

This product (albeit expensive) is great for what it is advertised - acquainting your child with computing and coding. This is not a "toy" and a child cannot be expected to handle or play with it on his own. However, under my guidance my 5 year old daughter (turned 5 last month - this was a birthday present) loves it and is very engaged with it when we decide to "play". Its great for quality time with your child, it opens their mind to simplifying instructions to basic levels in order to communicate with a computer (robot) and gives them additional skills like orientation when considering someone else's point of view, facing challenges & dealing with initial frustration of failure to overcome, patience, planning ahead and more. I would recommend anyone who considers buying this product to consider that the childs engagement with it will require close guidance. It would be a shame to spend such a large sum of money just to let it accumulate dust somewhere because no one takes the time to guide the child through the process of learning.

Box and items came moldy! Health hazard for kids!

We have the Matatalab Pro Set and this accessory. I think this add-on is well made and very fun to my kids. They love to have me come see to their creations! My kids have fun playing with this Coding Robot - my kids are 7 and 8 and have found that some of the things on here are quiet easier. Well made Fun to play with Engaging Expensive No sound adjustment options No other storage box or container - so when we have the additional sets they just stay in their boxes.
