It is three times as dark as higgins ink. To cover a pure black surface I do two passes of this ink (in kuretake inkbrushes) as opposed to higgins which needs four to five rounds. This ink is water soluble, and will create lovely cool-gray shades if a wet watercolor brush goes over it. I use this on last step of my watercolor paintings to define blackest areas and lines. If my inking work does not need any water media, I just use this in my kuretake brush pen all the way.
