Review: Powerhead for a 180 gallon tank! - Before I go on I just have to say if you don't have desertcart Prime yet you need to jump on it!! Free 2 day shipping is absolutely the best!!! I just set up a 180 gallon tank and most of everything was purchased through here on Prime!! I've most definitely have already earned my money's worth!! Anyways, ONTO THE REVIEW I'll start my review by saying I ordered 2 of these Marineland 1200s. After opening it took me a few minutes to figure it out, but after assembly was quite easy. What I didn't know was there are 3 different set ups for this powerhead. They are as follows: 1. Powerhead (submerged) 2. Laminar flow (submerged) 3. Utility pump (submerged or external). For my purposes I'm using both of mines submerged. I'm using one as a powerhead and the other as a laminar flow. After setting and starting both up I was blown away by their power and range. The laminar set up was more like a giant fan blowing, with large area flow. The powerhead was more direct, but had smaller range. I set one up at one up at one end and the other at the others end of my tank, pointing to the center. I actually tried different set ups, like two laminar flows, but found having one of each to be better (one laminar flow and one powerhead). I even placed them in different places in my tank, pointing in different directions but ended up putting them in the center. As I was setting them up I had them on so I can see where the water was flowing. They are now set up and I'm absolutely loving them both!! They are really powerful and blow and circulate water really, really well. I highly recommend this for your tank!! IMPORTANT EXTRA INFORMATION: So a side effect I heard about and have seen for myself is this powerhead does raise the temperature in your tank. Since my tank is brand new and mostly large I filled it using the water from my outside hose. The temperature of that water was about 68-70 degrees. Well, the two powerheads have warmed my water up to about 80 degrees!!! For me personally that's an added bonus because now I've removed the heater altogether and am using the two powerheads to heat the tank!!! I've monitored the temperature, using a digital thermometer, and the temperature in my tank has been bouncing between 78-81 degrees (but that's because of the changes in temperature in my house when it changes from day to night).
Review: versatile pump - It’s a versatile pump, has many modes to switch from. It is quite loud, maybe after some break-in it’ll get quieter.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How would this do for a ten gallon?**
A: For a 10 gal tank a 110/500 to gph is more than sufficient, even up to a 20 gal. For tanks up to 30 the 160.750 gph, for 40gal the 230/1000 gph will do the job. If you have under a 40 gallon tank a single pump is all you need to run one under gravel filter, two pumps might be too much. Anything over a 40 gal tank I recommend a dual pump under gravel filter set up. For a 50 gal tank I recommend no less than two 295/1300 gph Maxi Jets. I have two mounted into a 48x12 tank with a DIY under gravel filter set up with a modified carbon filter basket mounted on one of the pipes to draw water into it. These units are great, and pump air and circulate the water very well, my gold fish no longer behave like their stuck in a stagnant pond, you can definitely see a change for the better in their behavior, their actually happy now. If you love your fish, get them one of these.

**Q: What is the tube used for on the maxi jet**
A: When using it in impeller mode, you attach the tubing with the venturi to pull in air so you get a lot of oxygenation.

**Q: can you use it in salt water?**
A: absolutely can be used in salt water.

**Q: Do you sell separately the suction cups**
A: Not being the manufacturer here, they do sell extra cups. Check marineland
