I have a samsung sm961 256gb m.2, def pcie, but only get 40mbs when attached via usbc to my 2017 imac. why so slow ? and thoughts please.

The quality of the cables is a big influence. Two cables and you get two very different values. The next is the port type and the settings on the port. 3.0 gives a 5 Gbit/s and 3.1 give 10 Gbit/s (max-theoretical) but, I found that if its a direct connection the speed is great, but don't take it through a powered hub, because there a many transaction checks etc.

Do the cables/connectors that you supply with the enclosure allow for utilizing the maximum transfer speeds of 850-1020MB/s advertised? Thanks

Seller's Answer YES. NV-C01 and NV-i9 are all included with two cables: A2C and C2C. They are all in 10Gbps standard that is USB 3.1 Gen2. All the cables were 100% tested by ElecGear. The typical top rate for most NVMe is more than 880MB/s. (This is superior to other NVMe enclosure brands. They often come with a A2C cable and a A2C adapter. We don’t think that is reliable and convenient to use daily.) And here is some remind to the cable, port and rate: 1. To best utilise the top speed of NVMe, make sure the USB port is USB 3.1 Gen2. 2. Most Type-A port is 3.0 (5Gbps=420MB/s-480MB/s), however, some are in 10Gbps standard. 3. A Type-C port does not mean it is 10Gbps. In many cases, it can be USB 3.1 Gen1 which is the same as 3.0. 4. Does it support other pcie m.2 devices or only ssds ? such as the blackmagic decklink sdi micro?

It is designed for NVMe SSDs however, providing the blackmagic decklink sdi micro is, as described in the technical details, fully compatible with the M.2 connection then there is no reason why not. With a samsung 970 evo will the drive show as a samsung on my pc so i can use samsung's data migration software?easy to check using device manager. ta

The drive I have in my enclosure is an Intel SSD which shows up with the correct drive details and disk driver, not a generic USB driver. This should work with you Samsung software, which is prety robust, but I could not garuntee it.
