The Photographic Emulsion Cleaner is superb. It easily cleans off 40+ year old adhesive residue on my old 8mm films. Quickly dries with no streaking and residue when wiped down with a PEC-PAD. I can clean a 500' reel of film with one PEC Pad and just a few drops of PEC while spooling the film across and hand cranked movie editor. Takes maybe a minute. Cleaning individual film strips (I'm assuming 5"-6" stripes of negatives) is going to be a very time consuming operation and the PEC fluid is going to evaporate quickly. That said, depending on how dirty the film is and how well you manage the pads, I suspect you'll run out of pads long before you run out of PEC. MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: As noted above, PEC is a very potent solvent. You must use it sparingly and in a well ventilated location. Just a few whiffs of the stuff will make you lightheaded. **Q: Can you clean old postcards with this?** A: I highly doubt it. I would assume it would dissolve the ink. It is meant for cleaning film and slides which are dye based. **Q: Does this work to clean older (as in 20-40 years) slides and negatives?** A: Works well for me. I use it to clean negatives, E-6 slides and Kodachrome slides prior to scanning. Most of this film was shot in the mid 80's to mid90's. I should add that my negatives and slides have always been well protected and the cleaning needed is minimal. **Q: Safe on camera sensors?** A: It seems so, sorry that doesn't answer your question. They are too stiff for use with PEC-12 to clean slides--seems like they dig unevenly into emulsion coating.
