Review: Fellowes really stands behind their brand! - I was looking for a keyboard drawer for my new sit/stand desk and did a lot of research. There are a lot of options out there with prices that range from $20 to $100. I was drawn to this keyboard drawer because of its small footprint. My new mobile desk is pretty narrow. I liked the pull out mouse pad that came with this drawer, since it allows me to set my keyboard and mouse at the same level. The fact the drawer is a Fellowes brand product was a bonus for me. I've used lots of their office supplies and computer accessories at work and I knew they had quality products. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the tray. It is really sturdy! Based on the low price, I expected it to feel cheap. It really doesn't. The slides are on ball bearings and move easily. The little mouse tray can be easily moved to either side depending on whether you are a leftie or a righty. There was plenty of room for my keyboard, with an adjustable stop at the back of the drawer to hold it snuggly. Even though the installation instructions were clear and easy, I made a stupid decision to adjust the position of the drawer by removing two of the tiny mounting screws that hold the slides to the desk mounts. The weight of the drawer tweaked the left slide and broke it. AAAGGHH! I was so excited to use my new drawer. I couldn't believe I wrecked it so quickly. I sent an email to Fellowes to see if I could buy a new slide. Unfortunately they don't stock supplies for such a small item. Their customer service representative was so excellent though! She found me a slide and mailed it to me within days - even though it was my fault. They really stand behind their brand! I knew I couldn't go wrong with Fellowes. The concern is the depth. I can only fit 7 1/2 inches from top to bottom of keyboard. **Q: I have a crossbar under my desk, so there is only about 10" from the edge to install something underneath. Will this work?** A: Hi Lauren,The brackets for mounting are just over 12'' apart, that means if you tried to install this unit, your cross bar would have to be no higher/lower than an inch to an inch a quarter (the bracket allows for a choice of height with a 1/4 in difference) that way you could mount one bracket on each side of the cross bar, and still have room to slide your key board out. It doesn't mount like the former/older style, but it has more stability because of its update. ( My husband mounted some extra pieces of wood under my desk in order for to install my unit. It made the mounting surface flush in order to be successful with installation.) I also had somewhat of a cross bar issue.I hope that is helpful. **Q: What size of keyboard fits on this drawer?** A: The keyboard portion of the drawer will hold a 20 inch wide keyboard.The lip of the drawer is about 1/2 inch deep and since there is no back lip on the device, the depth of the keyboard can be any size that will fit under the desk.Does that make sense? In other words, the rear of the keyboard can hang over the drawer. **Q: what's in the box? Are all the tools needed in the box?** A: You will need you own screw driver, a pencil to mark your holes, and a drill if you like to pre-drill holes for you screws. For me, I always like to pre-drill holes for my screws because I don't want to risk any damage to my wood. You can instill this with only a screw driver if you don't have a drill. It will just take a bit more endurance because you will be in an awkward position installing your drawer. The product is great for the price, though I would appreciate if the mounts were metal instead of plastic. Two recommended modifications if you purchase: 1. Mouse area was too small for me. I affixed a larger/thicker/sturdier mousepad on top of it and that works better. 2. The mounts to the desk and tray are plastic and have broken multiple times at the connection to the desk.
