The case adds very little bulk and weight to the iPad and the inner microfibre lining keeps the iPad's screen and back safe from scratches.Of course drop protection suffers because the case leaves the sides of the iPad exposed, but based on the way I use and store my iPad I much prefer this type of case. One reason is that the sides of the iPad remain exposed so you can enjoy your iPad colour choice rather than having that hidden away by a case surround. And the other is that I also have a Magic Keyboard for office work, but don't want to use this when I'm reading or surfing on the sofa or in bed.
