Review: Great for cooking chowders and clam cakes - These are excellent. I've been using these for years when I made clam chowder. You would never know these weren't freshly shucked they really taste great and appear fresh and smell of the ocean. Of course over time the price has risen, still there a good deal.

The can looks like nothing, it looks like some boring nonsense, and it was so cheap I didn't realize it was 3 pounds. I'm shocked at how good it was for the price, don't get me wrong this isn't high quality tinned clams... But it's also about 10x the amount for the same price and there's 0 sand in these. These aren't going to replace your tinned clams that you eat straight out of the can, but these are perfect for pasta, clam chowder, etc. I will be buying these again, I wish they had a bit more flavor but for the cost there's no beating this.

Snow’s operates an 86,000 square-foot plant in Cape May, New Jersey, with a capability to make chowder, soups, canned clams, and clam juice. **Q: Can you eat the clams straight out of the can without heating?**
A: Yes you can. They are cooked. You can even eat them right out of the shell standing thigh deep in the ocean as you dig for clams on Pismo Beach as I did in the sixties.

A: I have never frozen them before but I don't see why not... I would try it.

**Q: These are listed as bumblebee, but pictured as doxee/snow's..which are they?**

Snow's is a trustworthy brand and these clams are decent quality, flavorful, well priced and you get more than enough for a large pot of chowder in a single can. I've successfully frozen half a can (transferred to a freezer bag) when I haven't wanted to use a full can, and that's a big plus. The large size can keeps the per-ounce cost well below the clams that are regularly available in the stores, so that's another big plus. This is a kitchen staple for me, and I won't be buying the smaller, more expensive and less flavorful cans any more. This is my new favorite.
