Per the label the ingredients are Thiamine Mononitrate (100mg) and Calcium Carbonate (24mg). Nothing on the label indicates it includes Benfotiamine! Benfotiamine is a relative of thiamine, which is better known as vitamin B1. Thiamine is critical for the metabolism of our brain's major energy source—glucose. Benfotiamine, which converts to thiamine in the body, enters cells more easily than thiamine. Like disulfide derivatives, benfotiamine may be useful for the treatment of acute peripheral syndromes of thiamine deficiency because it is better absorbed than thiamine, but in contrast to sulbutiamine, it seems to be devoid of specific effects on brain function.

I heard by taking these it prevents mosquito bites, is this true?

I’m a mosquito magnate. Decades ago my doctor told me to take B1 to help deter them. He said it gives your skin an odor that repels them. I can smell it on my palms after taking B1 for a few days — it smells like aspirin to me. And it has always helped me. A few mosquitos will be more determined, but a couple bites I can handle. 40 bites was just crazy. Anyway. That is my experience.

Nature Made is one of my preferred vitamin brands because their vitamins are one of the best values on the market. I take B1 at the recommendation of my podiatrist because I am older and diabetic, so peripheral neuropathy is potential problem for me. This is one of the supplements that is recommended for the prevention of peripheral neuropathy. I have been taking this supplement for years and have experienced no side effects. As for the efficacy, I have to trust the opinion of my doctors, and they seem to be quite satisfied. Meanwhile, I am healthy so I will continue to use this supplement.
