Presch Combination Square 300mm Metric – Accurate Metal Carpentry Square with Stop Ruler and Scribing Tool

Beautifully made. Both small and large square are solid as a rock. Absolutely no movement when locked. Immediately put to use drawing a tricky piece of wood to repair a door. Markings are clear and simple in mm on both sides so measurement and marking is easy, screw pin attached to allow for marking. Wish all tools were this good and well thought out.

Arrive nicely packed in a foam lined box. Tracks, tracks. Everything is tracks. I use tracks a lot of the time, as guides for routers and saws. Being able to quickly set a track parallel is a real time saver. That's what I use these for. Really appreciate that these are metric only. So tired of Imperial, I've banished it from the workshop. The ruler is double sided, with the ruling on the other side identical to the first. This means that holding a square in your right hand the zero is on the left and in your left hand the zero is on the right, as it should be. The only slightly weird thing is that the numbers are upside down for lefties. See photo! Very sturdy and accurate. Recommended.

Question: How much difference can a decent combination square make? Answer: A HUGE amount! Only got this new square as my old one developed a stain at the beginning of the scale making small measurements awkward. Little did I realise what I'd been missing! The screw on my old one was basically digital - either super tight, or the scale flopping about. This Presch one is super smooth, and that goes for adjusting the scale as well - lovely smooth action., then just lightly snug up the screw and it's locked solid. Spend the extra few quid on this one and you won't be disappointed. After all, how often do you buy a new combination square? My only improvement suggestion would be to supply the pair in a nice wallet rather than a box which just gets chucked in the bin.

The Presch 150mm Combination Square is well-made and feels solid in the hand. The markings are clear and precise, and it’s been very handy for quick measurements and marking out. The spirit level and scribe are nice touches, and everything fits together well without any wobble. However, do be aware that 150mm is quite small—it’s fine for smaller projects or fine woodworking, but if you’re expecting something more substantial, you might want to go for a larger size. It’s ideal for portability and light tasks, but not the best choice for bigger jobs. Overall, it’s a neat, accurate little tool, just be sure the size suits your needs before buying.

I've lost count on how many diffrent brands I tried over the years and I was just about to pull the trigger for a stupidly expensive set, but I was still struggling to justify nearly £250... So, I decided to give this set a try. To my surprise, it's actually spot on, both 90° and 45°, both of them. And no matter how many times I moved the ruler left and right, it staid true. I'm impressed!

Quality

The first thing to check with a square is that claimed 90 degree angle. It did not disappoint…I compared it to my Woodpeckers 1281 square and it was spot on…Then I did the parallel lines test by scribing a line from a straight edge of ply and flipping the square over to scribe a second line close by...they were as parallel as I could tell. The edges of the blade feel a bit ‘machine sharp’..it won’t cut you, but it feels like it could…a quick wipe along the corners with wet and dry paper solves that. The numerals are clear and pressed into the steel. You could pay three times more for an arguably smoother blade slide, but this unit is as good as any woodworker needs imo. As expected, it comes with detachable hardened steel scriber and a spirit level which seems to be level enough! I couldn't find anything to complain about!

Me han impresionado, porque, hace un tiempo, compre un producto muy similar en mi país, digamos, con el mismo color y forma, al que tuve que ajustar para que quedara en escuadra. Pero estas escuadras son otra cosa, totalmente precisas, los 90 grados son exactamente 90 grados, sin juego, lo que a simple vista pareciera un cuerpo de aluminio, no lo es, por su peso, es un metal ferroso. Estamos hablando de un set de escuadras combinadas de altísima calidad y a un precio más que razonable. Muy recomendable.
