The clippers will get hot. Besides the blade getting hot, you will feel it in your hand from the body of the clipper. I check the blade periodically by putting the flat of the blade on the back of my hand or cheek. I don't believe the dogs feel the heat much when you are clipping the body of the coat but you need to be careful of their faces, feet and other sensitive parts if you clip them. I blow on their feet while clipping if I am close to being done with the task. Otherwise, I let the clippers cool & do something else such as brushing or clipping toenails while the clippers cool.

There are plenty of different blades available, online and at pet shops. You want Oster blades, and they really haven't changed the design in at least 40years. I have a couple of #10s and also use #8 and even a #40 to clean the unseen tummy area where they might get mats
