I have a Mac desktop and a pc laptop and want to use it regularly with both. Will that work out of the box?

Mac OSX 10.11 & 10.12 - Just open Disk Utility and erase the disk to GUID Mac OS Extended Journaled. If you're using 10.10 or earlier first Partition the disk to GUID and then erase as Mac OS Extended Journaled. NTFS lets Windows users work with large files, since GUID has no file size limitations and is native to Mac, Mac users don't really benefit by using NTFS.

Will it work with Xbox

It's a plug and play to an Xbox one X. It will ask you on the screen for a quick format and then its ready to use. 30 seconds tops. No need to buy an WD passport X. 4 TB is more than enough for your games. I have about 30 games and it is only at 32%.

can you disassemble it for an internal hdd?

a normal 1tb HDD is way cheaper than this.... and you void warranty. buy a normal 1tb HDD.

My current computer does not have 3.0 usb, only 2.0 usb. will this external hard drive and it's cable still work on my computer for backup?
