They worked well, but when I brought them on an overnight hike on Vermont's Long Trail, I lost one hiking up Jay Peak. I liked them, so I bought this item as a replacement. The hook-and-loop attachment on this version is sturdier and they hold better as a result. I've never gotten a tick on me when I use them (and I get them sometimes without). I can't prove that they work, but it feels safer to wear them. So far, I have found not a single tick after wearing them. My only (minor) complaint is that the velcro "hook" strip attaches directly to the outer material of the gaiter, making the closure light (unlike the standard velcro "hook & loop", which holds on for dear life), and is prone to loosening, especially if it is brushed against something while foraging. Still a great idea, and not uncomfortable in warm weather.
