Beautifully made. Sturdy wooden board and pieces. Some of the felt on the bottom of the pieces had to be reaffixed, but no big problem, nothing to write home about. Magnets are strong, after all, we’re not playing outside during a hurricane. Perfectly sized board, light-weight enough to carry by the convenient handle that doesn’t interfere with the play of the game or damage your table top. The cushioned storage inside keeps the pieces from getting marred, like they would be if they were just thrown into a bag all willy-nilly instead of being nestled nicely in their own little beds. I would be a happy recipient if I received this as a gift - I would think it cost much more than it did! A great bargain!

It looks nice - the quality is reasonable. I wish the pieces were heavier and metal - but I am not taking stars for that. The handle is great - and it looks really nice set up. Magnet strength is medium - and feels like it's just there to compensate for the weight of the pieces. It's not really a travel piece - it's 15.5 inches so - but great for home.

This is a beautiful board, very well made, and the perfect set for my grandson who is just now expressing an interest in chess. I helped him play his first match against his cousin on Christmas Day on his aunt's crystal set and, after winning, was totally enthralled and picked it up very quickly. I can't wait until he unwraps this set for his birthday!

Good beginners board

Really, this is absolutely my favorite chessboard that I've ever owned, so much so that I put my own personal one in one of the airbnbs I have and people seeming to like it I decided I would buy two more so I could have use of mine and set up one in each of the other apartments. I love that the pieces are a good size, you can play outdoors in the wind and they don't blow over, but I was very surprised that the magnets on these two new sets are not as strong as my original. I love that when you're in the middle of a game, you could fold it in half and put it up on a shelf somewhere out of the way, and all the pieces would stay put. If you do this with the new boards, the pieces slowly slide down toward Earth! I mean it's not a really big deal but they changed something. Maybe the wood veneer that covers the metal plate is a little thicker or the magnets are a little thinner. In any case, it is noticeable... and I hate to be so picky but I'm removing a star from my review of a few years ago... 😕

Foldable wooden chess set from Amerous has a very unusually shaped chess board which was received flawless and built to last! The entire set is consistent with Amerous quality and attention to detail. This set is currently available with a 20% coupon and while I paid full price, I have no regrets whatsoever! I made a gift recently of an Amerous chess set to a friend who was recovering from a medical issue and he could not get over the quality of the gift, which pleased me very unusually

I tried a lot of chess sets before I got to this one this is the one you want very good value for your money and quality made this is the best one in this price range.
