The acrylic backboard of the 1269 is a more rigid material than the plastic backboard of the 1221. Acrylic's stiffness produces better bank shots, rebounds and holds up better than the plastic backboard. Which is why the 1269 usually costs a bit more than the 1221. Hope this helps!

Is it regulation height

Yes, but because of the assembly method, it can be imprecise at its highest setting. I ended up measuring and adjusting with wood to make sure I was getting exactly regulation height.

Is the hoop made in the usa ?

It is all made in USA except for the net. No usa company makes them, they all come from china

what are the dimensions of the backboard? is it 44 inches square?

It is rectangular--44" long and 34" high (to be exact, it says the dimensions are 44.5 x 34.5).
