There is really no such thing as a "fountain skimmer", so my options were spa skimmers that are too big or aquarium skimmers that are too small and seem kind of cheap in quality, so I thought I would go outside the box and search for kitchen strainers, and, lo and behold, I found this awesome possum. The handle is thick and looks and feels pretty durable and the 100 mesh seems to be the perfect size to pick up small sediment while being able to cut through the water smoothly and easily (I initially purchased the 400 mesh, but it dragged too much). It looks like it will hold up well for my use, but even if it doesn't, the price is so low that I will just buy more. In fact, I already ordered 2 more because I was so excited at how well it cleaned.

Initially when I used the screen popped out of the rim when I was scrubbing it, thats when I realized the center pops out to release the screen which means I can replace just the screen if I need to and makes it easier to sterilize if using it for Kefir and other things. Very sturdy and does the intended job with no fuss, very happy.

If you want to make kefir cheese, this is one of the most economical ways to do it. But if you only want to strain off the liquid, it is not that easy. You have to keep stirring the kefir in the strainer as it drains into a bowl. To make the kefir cheese, place the strainer over a large dish then just pour the kefir with the curds and whey into the strainer. Let it sit several hours, you don't have to stir it, although stirring it gently will speed up the process. The only thing that gave me trouble was a 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup. The strainer was a little too small for the rim and kept tilting in. I had to switch to a 2-cup measure for more stability. However, this is the best method I have found so far to make kefir cheese. I will have to add that there are many strains of milk kefir and even the environment in your home may affect the kefir. In the winter, my kefir is more liquidly, and it is difficult to make cheese, and in the summer, it is more like cauliflower grains and easier to strain.

positives: I bought this to strain homemade juice, it works very well by keeping all fruit pulp out of the strained juice and its pretty easy to wash. negatives: Using it for homemade juice, I have noticed it stains easily but that doesn't bother me too much. Where the mesh attaches to the plastic rim is pleated- like so stuff does catch in them and needs a little extra scrub. over- all if I need a second one, I'd re-purchase this one.

I got the 100 to sift my dip powder cause I keep getting glitter in my clear powder and wow! It literally left it clear! It grabs every little tiny piece! Must have if you do your own nails or for any fine sifting needs. It's fast too. Bigger than I expected which was a nice surprise especially for the price.

The product is actually very fragile. After just a few uses, the mesh started coming off the frame. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I use this to rince my rice and It works perfectly!!! It cleans up easily and fit in the drawer. We eat rice 2-3 times a week and it's made rice making fast and easy!!

Do not buy if you are looking to strain milk kefir. Water kefir would likely be thin enough to strain.
