Can it be used in the shower?

This is not a shower cap, the elastic band is fabric and will get wet, which would not necessarily hurt anything. The cap itself is made to put in a microwave to heat for hair color or conditioning treatment of the hair product one puts on the hair. This is used rather than a hair dryer for such purposes.

Yes, place it in the microwave as is...you can place it on a plate if desired. Please follow the instructions and heat the cap in the microwave seconds at a time. The gel inside really gets hot and will burn thru the cap if you attempt to over heat it.

for how long it hold warm?

Depends on how long heated in microwave. I heat for 30-45 seconds. It holds head well for about 30 minutes, then I reheat. I wear a thin shower-cap type cover over the hair to maintain the heat during wearing the main cap and while reheating the main cap.
