It replaces a glass bowl I used to use...I had to wrap plastic on the top of it to stop it from splashing the inside of the microwave. This bowl with its pressure release system prevents splashing...when you unlatch it to give it a stir it doesn't burn your fingers even if the contents are already pretty hot.
