This is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect product and will solve your multiple hard drive problem. U can bring you drives under one umbrella. Easy to use and very easy to install the drives. Just open and insert and you are ok to use.

This specific model dont have a RAID controller inbuilt, the product descriptions were not accurate or detailed enough to understand the differences. It works fine as hardware enclosure, you can use multiple bays with different HDD capacities and windows will recognize them as a mass storage units. The transfer speeds are just okay dont expect the lightning fasts. For me im just taking the data backups and is okay. The max drive i used is 4 TB in a single closure and 2 TBs in the rest.

Drive bay works fine, all drives are detected, but when using Linux devices the controller causes serious issues with UASP and so you need to use USB Mass Storage, which radically slows down the drive performance on any random io.

Bought this based on customer reviews to replace external hard drives that used to hold all of my files. Some of the stuff stored on here is stuff I use every day, files and notes, but EVERY time I click on the drives they take 30 seconds to 'wake up' because of their power saving feature. It winds up being a lot of time waiting and feels like going backward 20 years. Works OK, well made, but that wake-up is killing me!

I'm very disappointed in this enclosure. It is built well, but I could not find a way to set the RAID. The software the product description said to download was hard to find and did not find the disk to setup the RAID. I tried their software on Windows and OSX, the OSX version didn't even run. In the end, I was only able to use this as 4 separate disks, which is not the mode I wanted to use.

I looked at many, many different USB drive enclosures that would hold 4 or 5 drives and NOT be a NAS or RAID solution. I just wanted to be able to plug in some of these random 3.5 inch hard drives and begin consolidating the data onto a newer, larger drive. The package was delivered a full day early, and I had it set up and in use in about 15 minutes. Literally plug and play with drives previously formatted in Windows. The data on the drives is safe and i can copy the data from them as I wanted. Transferring data from one drive to another within this enclosure is very fast. I copied 1.5 gigabytes of photos from one drive to another in less than one minute. I definitely recommend the Orico 9548U3 USB drive enclosure.

I use this box to house my backup drives for my NAS. So far it's been very reliable and there were no issues installing drives in it. Get something else if you want a NAS. This is fine for having multiple backup drives that you place files on it manually and don't want a bunch of power supplies and USB cables cluttering your desk.
