ZUD: Verb; to clean a problem; e.g. "Zud the toilet." That's what it does. It cleans thin rust and removes thin mineral build-up. Don't expect it to take on 1/8 inch accumulations. It will have some effect, and it could even clean it all if you have a day or so to wait until it works it's way through. Been used in my family since the 1950's as the cleanser of last resort. Read and follow the directions and warnings and it will work as promised. It has worked where other more gentle cleansers have failed. This is heavy duty: abrasive (pumice) and an oxidizer (oxalic acid). Don't use it on anything pretty (except bathroom porcelain) . It scratches, as you would expect from having pumice as an ingredient. With metal, especially pots and pans, this will usually leave a residue, even after rinsing. Check by using a white paper towel; it will pick up a gray/black color. Remove the residue by washing with dish soap. If it is not stainless steel, but bare steel, dry immediately and thoroughly or you will see flash rust. ZUD will scrub to the bare metal. Do not use on teflon or other coated surfaces, like on cookie trays or flat pans. It will take the coating off. I've had the best results by making a paste with it and then waiting while it works. The paste will let it cling to vertical surfaces and keeps a larger amount of the ingredient in contact with the rust or stain. This is a big gun in my arsenal of cleaning products. You don't want to be without it.
